Talk about hypocritical Repuke: Murkowski up on the Senate floor now
bitching about the oil spill in Prince William Sound how many years ago? 20 or so? Wants compensation for the fishermen that have been affected by the spill and are still being affected by the spill. Wants punitive damages.

BUT, is for drilling in Alaska.

:wtf:

1. She is desperate for some form of approval from Alaska
She has to suffer the burden of her father who was literally thrown out of office. His own Party despised him and the acorn does not fall far from the tree.

3. Some Alaskans are a little schizophrenic
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:38 AM by Blue_In_AK
when it comes to relations with the oil companies, but in my mind at least, there's no doubt that the fishermen deserve the damages. Exxon has fought paying this award for all these years despite the fact that many of these people had their livelihoods destroyed by the spill. With the profits Exxon takes out of this state, they can afford to make things right.

6. Exxon ONLY has a "Net Profit" of OVER one hundred million dollars a DAY
Not sure they can afford anything as they are close to being destitute. They have been realizing such profits for over four years straight. Day in and day out week after week month after month year after year OVER One Hundred Million Dollars a Day Pure Profit NET PROFIT After All expenses have been paid.

7. I "hope" the Supreme Court does the right thing,

but with its current business-friendly composition, I have my doubts. It's so sad really. Were you here during the time of the spill? I'll never forget how sick and despairing I felt that day.

8. Yes I was a Commercial fisherman in SE
And yes the spill effected me as well. Not directly as it did Cordova fishermen but the price of salmon fell dramatically for several years after the spill. Major decline in price that was creditied to the spill.

9. I think most people Outside were appalled
by the ecological damage that was done, but I don't think they fully grasp the economic impact that it had on people here. The EXXON VALDEZ spill is a large part of the reason why I'm so opposed to the Pebble Mine ... the unthinkable CAN happen. Why take the chance?

10. I have no problem with the fisherman getting compensated.
But asking for punitive damages after the pukes went out of their way for torte reform and giving a speech about this when Murkowski wants to drill in a protected wildlife area just gets to me.

11. Well, yes, Lisa --
She's another matter altogether. I too find it somewhat ironic that our Congressional delegation has filed a "friend of the court" brief on behalf of the fishermen and still push for more oil development here. But as I said, a lot of Alaskans have a love/hate relationship with Big Oil.

5. The Anchorage Daily News is running an excellent series
of articles about the effects of the spill in this morning's newspaper if you want to read more about how it affected people here.
