Faux outrage over flag lapel pins brought to you from the very same folks

who sported purple heart band aids during the RNC convention in NYC in '04 to mock Kerry's service and injuries sustained in Vietnam.

Patriotism. . .? Yeah right. . . sure.

Seder was really wickedly funny about this thoroughly bogus issue yesterday. . .

1. imagine if Obama signed a flag, like Dumbya ...
or, as I recently ran across, signed an autograph without using a writing tool, like Dan Quayle did ...

3. I never understood why flag burning was a 1st amendment issue.
It seems to be far more desecration of federal property as is *'s egocentric habit of signing small flags.

On the 1st link on the OP, someone was reading from some flag etiquette site and technically no one but first responders and military folks are supposed to wear it.

So go figure.

9. How does a flag I buy in the store become Federal Property?
If I want to burn my property who has any right to complain? I guess if there is a burn ban going on because of air inversions or something but other than that it is totally a 1st Amendment situation.

2. They are just trying tease out that Michelle Obama story i think
Totally nonsensical issue though. Does Obama love his country? Inquiring minds already know (that he does). Dumbass republican minds aren't sure.

5. Michelle got such a momentary bum rap.
The first time I heard her address a crowd in CA on CSPAN, I was blown away.

"Pride in America" we have some major pock marks on our history.

Myopic patriotism is so grating.

It's about the whole world now.

Wish more would get that.

6. Here's the thing - we do have pockmarks
But we also have triumphs. I buy the explanation of what she meant, but if someone really doesn't see anything in American history to be proud of, well, I would be oppose to be.

Believing the US all good and perfect is false and dangerous, but believing the US is all murder and corruption is equally problematic. The truth is somewhere inbetween.

7. Still she elucidated that she was talking about hope and political involvement.
If I was an Afro American, I'd feel as though this was potentially a really HUGE turning point and long overdue. Shit I feel that way as a 13th generational american on my mum's side.

8. Yeah that's what i meant - i understand and accept her explanation of what she meant
But if she meant it another way it would be a lot harder for me to swallow.

Bill Maher
said some time back that, in general, anyone who wears a flag pin on their lapel is probably an asshole. He's probably right.

4. The Republican party is the party of symbols, not substance.
These whackos think that wearing a flag lapel pin and sticking a yellow ribbon magnet on the back of their vehicles means they are patriotic. Starting a war against a country that didn't attack us, rendering people, declaring people "enemy combatants" with no evidence against them, tapping our phones, reading our emails, and all the other things they've done don't matter in their eyes, because they wear/display the "right" symbols.

They are so full of shit, lies, and deceit, and yet point their fingers at others.

They are beyond disgusting.
