What are you doing right this minute?
Other than keeping up with whatever's been posted recently on this board, what else are you doing right now? I know all of you are muti-task-capable. I'm typing here, waiting for a batch of oatmeal/apple/alspice cookies to come out of the oven, and watching the Senate vote on C-Span 2.

How about you?

Anyway, he wants to do this for his daughter...her b'day. I love impromptu with adults that I like to visit with but there are four adults (either staunch repuke or don't have a clue types) and four picky kids...two menus! I have the DVR set on one for the debate tv and if anyone touches that they're dead meat. Do I sound like a witch? Today, I am. Thanks for your menu...sounds heavenly...will use at a later date. Cheers!

Hope your dinner goes well, and that your company would enjoy your dinner, what ever that is;) But 8 people for dinner, at 8 minutes notis, that is "little" over the top if you ask me..

61. HI! Diclotican....your English is fine and thanks for seeing my viewpoint!
We're grilling out....ribs and sausage links, potato salad, garden salad, rolls, hotdogs and chips for the kids. I made a large shrimp cocktail plate for before dinner and we have a cake and a pastry tray for afterwards and ice cream bars for the kids. Our dining room table has, well for one thing has no dining room and it's in storage. Where these people are going to sit beats me...It's not warm here today...very,very windy. Will be dark in an hour so we can't sit outside. It was 90 degrees F. here yesterday....warmest day ever recorded on the 25th of February. It's going to be interesting.

A DVR is for satellite tv like TIVO is for cable tv.....we can record the debate and watch it later. I've been so excited about this all day I hate to have to wait even longer to watch it!

Good to run into you again!

Good morning Snappy. That sounds good, ribs and the lot. Bad you don't have a dining rom, when you have 8 guest, but I do hope you get the dinner under way, and that everyone in the rom are feed good and nicely.. I guess you somehow manage to do that anyhow. Even that it would take some time to do it... That sound chilly indeed, when you have 90 degrees F and it is definitely to cold to sit out for dinner... It like in the 10s when it come to the Celsius ?. I am not sure, but it sound cold out... Have been pretty warm here to lately, often in the +6 C on the day... Very amazing when thinking back some years..Then it was often -30 here I live today...

Ah, a such thing. Then I know what it is.. Sorry you miss the debate then..would it been send on CNN?.. I believe I missed the debate anyway... When this type of things are been send, it is 3 or 4 in the morning here.. Very late, or very soon to look at the old TV... But I guess you would manage to get to se what it was anyway.. And you can skip the commercials too;).. The american TV are full of commercials I guess...

Good to se you too Snappy. Are here on almost daily basis, but sometimes the politic goes over my head I am afraid. So I don't coment... THe american political scene are something I have just the smallest grasp on, I am afraid, but I read and try to understand it little more.. Maybe in 2018 I have some grasp on it:evilfrown:

83. Consider yourself lucky not to understand the American political
situation....because it's a mess! Exciting times though. I hope the world will heave a huge sigh of relief when the Americans elect a Democratic president this Fall.

I did manage to catch the debate in its entirety later in the evening. Got a bit heated but I didn't really learn anything new from either candidate. Twenty debates are too many....one or two would have suited me fine.

What's the feeling 'across the pond' about the election here? Any favorites?

Glad you come frequently to DU! Bye for now.

Ok, the political system is in that allot of mess.. Well I hope that a democratic President would be the next president. I believe in fact that for the most part the rest of the world would get a relief from the nightmare mr Bush have been for the last 8 year.. If US was to elect another "I want war to give myself a reputation" the rest of the world would for the first, shake their head in disbelief that after 8 year with a man who screw you out and down royalty now decide to get more of the same.. I don't Believe mr McCain are that a good president.. And I fear that the age are against him.. He is over 70 and would have to much to work with, if he was elected President... What US need are a younger, decent man/woman who can repair what he/she can, to minimalism what mr Bush have destroyed. The Crisis paper had a very good link to a "what if" the US was to elect a democratic president. And the president was to get out to work to working together to fix what is wrong in the US. http://www.crisispapers.org/essays7w/restoration.htm And I do hope the next president, would work hard to rebuild what is wrong with US today... Even that it would hurt, even that the EGO of america would be hurting worse than ever.. The year after Vietnam was bad.. The year, maybe the decade after mr Bush would probably be worse than the year after Mr Nixon.. It would be painful to learn that US have treated their friends allied, and others with hat much of contempt that it have been a damage it would take a generation to repair...

Hwy so many debates?.. I don't believe you can debate the case on and one even that US is a big country, with a big population... In other country they are used to mer 10 or less debates for prime minister or president... Specially in Europe where for the most part i is a race for the presidency, or a prime minister.. In the country who it is a king as head of state then.

I don't know how would be the next president. But as it looks like, Hillary R. Clinton is a favorite, even that mr Obama are to a favorite for many.. Personally I would have Edwards, or former general Wesley Clarke as president, Edwards looks like a decent man, and I hope and believe that mr Clarke have the knowledge not to alienate Europe further with an arrogant american politic. but because that they are not in the race anymore I am Little unsure how would be the democratic candidate for President.. I just hope it would be a democrat, and thar the president would try to slow down and full the gap between Europe and USA. The gap are indeed deep...And if not the next president are doing something with that gap, it would be deeper and deeper to nothing would full it again.. The Atlantic Ocean have a deep of 4.000 meters.. But I fear that the gap between US and many European country are much more for the moment  And we just have to hope, that the next president would do little more to get their friends to come over, and help US.... Even that i is not funny and would be painfull, it would be good in the end, when we maybe are better friends then before.. It is usaly that when you manage to rebuild friendship... It would be stronger, better suited to the future..

I am here, would be here for a long time. And it is good to "se" friends here on DU sometimes

on s manual and some SOPs but really reading DU. This is an interesting thread to read--reminds me of the background dialog in Wings of Desire (original version) for some reason...

...finished shopping and picked up kerosene for the heaters.Snowstorm starting here-off loaded supplies (I killed them at the scratch and dent markdowns today)and put most of the supplies away and am now having a smoke and a beer while reading DU and planning menus....tonight, grownups TV Dinner with real mashed potatos, roast turkey breast, canned (sadly) gravy and steamed peas and carrots....tomorrow's gonna be a too large portion of marinated NY sirloin steak with baked potato topped with sour cream and chives (plus a vegetable to be named later).Since SOMETHINGS going to kill you it may as well be good food...

Editted to add-Oh yeah, tonight a nice loaf of saloio bread for sopping up gravy-whether any lasts till tomorrow is debatable.....

55. Just finished spading up the rest of my winter taters...took me about 3hrs....
and helping my landlord till up our truck patch, before the rain moves in. That's been about a two-day job, now I've got mass scrubbing and storing to do. Resting my bones here, before I get back to task. I reek of compost and chicken shit and the owner of this 'puter will ream me a new one, just as soon as he smells that I've been here. Might do a bit of spicy baking before evening, too.

studio, reading DU, watching Law & Order Criminal Intent and sewing a pair of pants. Oh yeah, and reading a magazine. Multi-tasking is an art form for me.

Like a dead mouse in a trap, not the first thing you want to see in the morning even if you are the one who set it in motion the night before.

85. Slightly freaking out because I'm sitting with phone by my side
waiting for 4 teachers to call me back. It's been three days of my calling, emailing with no response as to test dates for my kid and getting him extra help BEFORE the exams. He was out sick 3 out of 6 weeks. They sent me a letter he's in danger of failing the year during the Feb. recess, then test him without extra help/review before an exam? Not acceptable.

I'm taking deep breaths, but I'm losing patience.

Thanks for asking, it helped to vent.
