Dana Perino, unhinged.......
from ThinkProgress:

Perino To Reporters: ‘From Where I Stand And The Questions I Get,’ You Are Clueless About FISA

During today’s White House press briefing, spokeswoman Dana Perino announced that the Bush administration will be holding a “background briefing” on wiretapping this afternoon. Resisting their calls to have the briefing on the record, Perino claimed that it was for reporters to “understand the complexities of the issue and where we stand.”

The briefing, however, seems intended to brainwash reporters with White House talking points, rather than clear up any so-called “confusion.” Reporters quickly said that they are “quite clear” on the White House’s positions and the facts. Perino then snidely replied, “I don’t think so.” From today’s exchange:

QUESTION: I mean, the president’s made quite clear his position on retroactive liability and so on and so forth. I mean, what specifically is the point of confusion that you might be trying to address?

PERINO: I could go back to yesterday’s transcript. … There’s confusion as to what — what are the implications and the consequences of not having the Protect America Act.

QUESTION: What’s the big mystery here? Don’t we know what this is about?

PERINO: From where I stand and the questions that I get, no. I don’t think so.

Perino pointed to the transcript of yesterday’s briefing as evidence of the reporters’ ignorance. The only one who appeared confused by the facts, however, was Perino.

Yesterday, Perino repeatedly claimed that because Congress refused to pass the administration’s version of the Protect America Act, U.S. intelligence collection was impaired. One reporter pointed out, “You’re still collecting intelligence.” Another charged that the government’s wiretap orders will last until at least August. Someone else stated that new targets can be pursued “as long as you come back within three days and get a warrant under FISA.” ......(more)

4. They have to set up the narrative that it's the Dems' fault if we get attacked
Reality has nothing to do with it.

That's why I think the Repubs made such a show about walking out of the FISA vote. They can't let facts get in the way of their show, they're right in the middle of it. They're not going off script.

20. "It's the $$ BILLIONS $$ Stupid!" Q. Does that mean they and the President are guilty?
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 05:52 PM by L. Coyote
A. Ahh, ahh, I mean, ahh, you know, you all know we never stand here and lie to you.

Q. Seriously now, Ms. Perino, If you all claim there has been no criminal misconduct on the part of the telecoms doing spying for you, and as you say, the President is not a criminal either, then why did you just say this will cost the telecoms billions (quote below from WH)? Which one isn't you standing here and lying to us?

Bush Administration Press Secretary Dana Perino stooped to a new low at today's White House press briefing, presenting numerous myths about trial attorneys as part of the Administration's desperate plea to get retroactive immunity for its telecommunications partners.

.............

Q Is the President's position that he would veto it without retroactive immunity?

MS. PERINO: That has been his position for a long time, and the reason is because you can't have -- without the cooperation of the companies, we won't have a program. You know, if we had a nationalized telecommunication system, then we -- the government could do it on its own, but in our system of government and the way that we are set up as a capitalist-style country, we have to have the cooperation of the private sector.

They have the technology, they have the means, and they want to cooperate, but they have been burdened with over 40 lawsuits, class-action lawsuits that would -- that, one, already are costing them lots of money to deal with. And if the suits were to go forward, it could cost them possibly billions. .....
