A rightwing coworker saw my journal today
And he stated that I belong in jail and should be sued by Herr Boosh for slander. My company is 95% rightwingers and I live in Oklahoma, the reddest of red states. This is where "Hee Haw" is still a top rated TV show.

1. Did you mention the freedom of speech thing?
You know, the part where Americans are free to criticize our government? As opposed to unfree countries where they aren't?

5. Yes, I brought that up, but
He insisted that I had "slandered" President Bush. It was a trip! Actually, I try to slander Herr Boosh as much as possible:).............

10. You might want to stop posting at work
because right wingers are vicious and vindictive and if you're posting at work on company time, it can be grounds to fire you.

Just sayin'.

4. I'm so sorry! That is terrible.
I have a lot of Repub coworkers, but they aren't THAT bad. They grudgingly listen to me and
try not to look to put upon. Bless their hearts. ;)

The republicans in Okie-land are a different breed. They don't understand concepts such as "Freedom of Speech" or the separation of church and state. In 2004, EVERY county voted for Bush in the Presidential election. Scary.

17. Yikes. Maybe you should move...
our Repubs often refuse to take their blinders off, but they're basically nice folks.
Still, I know what it's like to be a lonely Dem sometimes.

Of course, the town here is pretty blue, a bright blue spot in a red sea. :D

if he does-
he can't support Bush.

It doesn't work that way.

I'm sorry you're going through this.
He had NO business snooping through your journal.

All right wingers think the Bill of Rights went too far, except for the Second Amendment. They think as long as they own those little popguns, they can enforce the rest of their rights. Against bombers and tanks. Right.

They've also been trained to believe in the near deification of all GOP presidents, that they can do no wrong, and that there should be no checks and balances put on their power.

9. And exactly WHAT
was that knuckle-dragger doing looking in your journal anyway?

Just goes to show something my mother said as a girl about Republicans. When a classmate from a Republican family teased her about being Democrat (Grandpa thought FDR walked on water), saying "Democrats got long ears", she replied "well, Republicans got long noses - and they go around sticking 'em in other peoples' business!"

11. you got guts
oklahoma is as reactionary as west texas. thankfully i live in austin, and it's full of old hippies.
your statement about your rw co-worker reminds me of a story i heard molly ivins tell. me and my wife went to see her speak at a bookstore here in austin, and she was talking about having been on a panel that was looking at gay rights issues in midland odessa and how it effected local politics. according to molly one of the ladys on the panel was the local gop chair, and she said "oh honey, gays don't come out of the closet in midland, people would think they're democrats"

19. i understand, i've been to oklahoma
and no offense to your state but i'm not in any hurry to go back. just stopping for gas in rural oklahoma was an adventure as i had pretty long hair at the time, and was wearing a paisley shirt. the nasty looks i got, you would have thought i was pissing on the cross. of course west texas can be just as bad. i try to stay away from there too. good luck

13. Did you ask him why he hates America?
turn George Lakoff on him:

* * *

We were recently asked how to respond when confronted with the attack, "Aw, you liberals just hate America."

This is name-calling with a destructive (and false) frame. There are times when it is necessary to have a retort, not for its own sake,

but to allow you to shift the frame and say a lot more on any one of many topics. The replacement frame should express progressive views

while revealing key truths hidden by the original frame. Here is one strategy:

"Aw you liberals just hate America."

No. We love democracy and we want to return it to America.
You want a presidential dictator.

We love liberty and we want to return it to America.
You want to tap our phones.

We love equality and we want to return it to America.
You think some people are better than others.

We love honesty and we want to return it to America.
You love lobbyists and corruption.

We love fairness and we want to return it to America.
You want to oppress the powerless.

We love openness and we want to return it to America.
You love secrecy and hiding the facts.

We love nature's glory and we want to return it to America.
You love the profit that comes from destroying nature.

We love community and we want to return it to America.
You want everyone to fend for himself.

We love public education and we want to return it to America.
You want to destroy public education.

We love civilian control of the military and we want to return it to America.
You want to militarize America.

And on and on...

George Lakoff
The Rockridge Institute

Hang in there Joey!

Alyce

20. I have a picture of Bill Clinton in my office
And I am surrounded by some of the dumbest, most vindictive Reich wingers you'd ever want to meet. And the CFO/COO, who USED to be extreme Reich wing even now admits Booshe fucked up big time because HE is feeling the pinch.

But I control the computers LOLOL. And FAUX news, Freeper world, and a couple of other sites are blocked at the routers.
