"Man With a Gun" shuts down campus,,do we need to know? Why?

This story..basically ..."A man with a gun story.." shut down a campus yesterday.. ok..

but.. it was the leading story for a while in the country... At least on MSNBC website..

....Why? Is it to frighten us, or inform us..Do we really need to know about a man with a gun...a simple local story, for the police to look into, just like they do hundreds, thousands of times a day?...What is the point of reporting this across the country? These jerks are trying to frighten the hell out of everyone,...so we can thank big brother for protecting us. Screw em...

Some people think all students should be armed. I think this story shows what chaos that would bring. As far as "a thousand times a day", I would call that inaccurate.

3. Hard to know..perhaps hundreds of times a day...

Very hard to know, how many times the police in this country respond to calls like this. I am sure that in New York City, or in L.A. it happens often. Taken as a whole, somewhere there is info on it. But to make it a major story for a while, well it seems crazy to me.

They are indeed nuts for reporting the escapades of someone who is in the middle of a major breakdown. I guess that these people who edit the news think we are all idiots. I need to know about Britney, as much as I need to know about the last time that O.J. Simpson took a dump........

I work at Virginia Tech and we're steeling ourselves for the first anniversary of that tragedy.
