Iraq costing $18 BILLION a month
Nobel prize winner Joseph Stiglitz assesses the true cost of the Iraq war:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/28/iraq.afghanistan

...I mean $18 BILLION?? Imagine what could be done with that money, how many people it would feed, educate and clothe..

(apologies if this has been posted already)

1. A little math:
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 06:54 AM by Smith_3
$18 BILLION is 18.000.000.000 dollars.

There live approximately 300 MILLION people in the states, that is 300.000.000

18.000.000.000 / 300.000.000 = 60

We could give every person a sixty dollar check every month instead of having the war... :eyes:

edit: I wonder wether the boost to the economy that the war is supposed to be, increases or decreases tax revenue.

editedit: I'd spend my check on video games.

2. Good choice!
I'm in the UK so no $60 cheque for me.. The last estimate I heard was that the British government is spending roughly 2bn in Iraq every month, so that's:

(best case)

2,000,000,000 / 60,000,000 = £33.33p

Hmm.. well it'd buy a couple of rounds of drinks!

8. It sure adds up, paying Sunnis not to shoot US troops. I read that the going rate is between
$300-600 per month to each.
