Right wing went nuts over this video from Obama on defense priorities and wasteful defense spending
From The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder: Here's the full video... of which 52 seconds became viral yesterday in conservative circles.

I really like the idea of an independent Defense Priorities Board, as well as his other recommendations--no weaponizing of space, ending unproven missile defense programs, working toward a world without nukes, and working with Russia to take the ICBM's off hair trigger alert.

1. barak obama just got my attention....
I have been generally cold toward Obama's campaign because of his duplicity in being "against the war in Iraq" while never missing an opportunity to keep it going. However, he is unequivocal in this video: "First, I'll stop spending nine billion dollars a month in Iraq" and "As president, I will end it."

That is an encouraging statement.

7. But a campaign staffer from SC called in to talk radio and said that....
Obama "hoped" to end it by the end of his 4th year. That didn't sound particularly encouraging to me. On 60 Minutes, he admitted that as Commander in Chief he might receive intelligence that would prevent him from ending the war. Again, not encouraging. I understand he needs to cover all his bases, but it's hard to get a straight answer if you're looking at multiple sources. As far as spending, does he feel he has the majority of Congress to back him up in not spending the money? Wouldn't they have to agree?

The letdown if he can't end the war in Iraq soon will be devastating. Witness the threads on DU.
