TYT Rants On Horrifying New Pictures From Abu Ghraib, Torture & More (video not work-safe/kid-safe)

This is really disgusting...I've known about some of the abuses but I'm still shocked by this. This is important, so if you can't watch it at work, take the time to watch at some point this weekend (if you can't look, just listen to the commentary and keep in mind the pics are up for a limited time).

Cenk is absolutely right when he says this is NOT what America is supposed to be about, and we can NOT allow this to viewed as normal. And his point about Obama/Russert at the end is spot-on:

2. Terrible as it is, the outrage is a tad hypocritical.
Where was the outrage when president Clinton (D) started the practice of extraordinary rendition of 'terror suspects' to torture chambers in Egypt, Morocco, Jordan etc.? And long before him the CIA was already abducting and torturing countless numbers of people all over the world (especially in Latin America), in order of both Republican and Democratic presidents. What's the difference? Is Abu Graib worse because there's pictures of it?

4. Well, to be fair
I was pretty young and politically apathetic at the time. Cenk actually brought this issue up on the show the other day re: Clinton and rendition. I think far more people are aware of what's going on now (not enough, but relatively speaking) compared to when it was going on back then.

I've said many times that I don't have rose colored glasses on when I review the Clinton years with hindsight (rendition, NAFTA, Telecom Act of 1996, etc.). But on balance I'd have to say Bush has clearly gone MUCH farther in many ways overall.

At any rate, we can't go back in time and chastise Clinton.

5. It's evident that Bush is 10 times worse than Clinton, or any other president.
But it has to be said that abduction, rendition, torture has always been a practice of US secret services. I think it has become more prominent with Bush, because of the long list of other criminal activities he has gotten himself into. This attracts more attention to other crimes, like Abu Graib.

6. this is why I say Bu$h did me a big favor
he fucking WOKE ME UP. I too am guilty of cruising along on my merry way during the Bu$h 1 and Clinton administrations.

The stolen election of 2000 did more to shake me up than Sept. 11.

7. That may be the only positive we can take away from Bush
He's mobilized much of America.

12. Did anyone else talk about the new photos and the issue more broadly? Maybe Keith?
I missed the last few episodes of Countdown so I do not know if he covered it...I hope he did.

13. Those photos are not new...I've seen them ALL before and some even worse.
Unfortunately! Bush is a war criminal! So is Rummy and Cheney et al.

14. I read elsewhere there were some new photos
so it's possible they just showed some of the older ones. At any rate, they are obviously chilling and horrifying and I totally agree with Cenk's take on this.

War criminal is right!
