We're In Trouble Here, Folks
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 08:23 PM by NanceGreggs
While we’re all cheering the idea of a Democrat in the White House come next January, we are naively refusing to seriously consider the realities we’ll be faced with, and the challenges that lie ahead.

After the BushCo Administration leaves office, we will have to deal with certain unpleasantries that will ensue the minute the new president is sworn-in – this time without his or her fingers crossed behind their back.

The Republicans have proven over the last seven years that they can outspend the Democrats. How can we even hope to keep up, no less out-do them? The only real possibility of being able to waste more taxpayer dollars than the GOP would be to hire thousands of people to man phone lines and make completely useless purchases on eBay and the Home Shopping Network, 24/7 – which only leads to another problem: in this burgeoning economy, where will we possibly find any jobless people, no less a sufficient number to staff this endeavor? And once purchased, where do we store all of the Bullet Blenders, the Joan Rivers Jewelry Collection, and Set-it & Forget-it rotisseries?

And speaking of filling important government jobs, where will the Democrats find the “Brownies” of the future? Will organizations like FEMA wind up being headed by people with experience and expertise, simply because the next Democratic president doesn’t actually know enough incompetent cronies to appoint to positions that require life-and-death decision-making skills? The mind boggles.

Where will the scandals come from? They don’t just grow on trees, people. While the GOP have long enjoyed the publicity garnered by their association with people like Ken Lay and Jeff Gannon, the Democrats again fall short in this all-important area. Jack Abramoff, the country’s most proficient corrupt lobbyist, didn’t even try to do business with our side of the aisle. How can we compete for headlines without The Dukester, Noe, Nay, De Lay, Foley, Vitter, Craig?

Even if Obama or Hillary choose a VP who is willing to shoot a friend in the face and make the victim apologize on national TV, will it even come close to the Macacca Boy moment? I sincerely doubt it.

And what about the show-biz aspect? Will the Democrats usher in a boring, lifeless administration that is just too focused on real issues to hold all-night sessions over the Terri Schiavos of the world? Will SNL finally call it quits when a Democratic president refuses to speak incoherently, or mangle the English language on a regular basis? Will The Daily Show and the Colbert Report be cancelled due to a lack of “putting food on your family” quotes?

Where will we, as a nation, be headed when we have a president who can read? Are we really ready for a Commander-in-Chief who is able to comprehend briefings entitled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US”, and act accordingly?

I am particularly worried about the inevitable fallout of re-establishing ourselves as a nation worthy of the respect of the world. Will all of these foreigners want to come over for dinner like they used to? Will they expect to sleep over? Will they bring their own toothbrushes, or will we be on the hook for the cost of toiletries and sundries for clamoring-to-visit international dignitaries?

We cannot ignore the fact that there will be thousands let go from their jobs: the professional WH apologists, the translators who will no longer be required to translate Bushspeak into something that makes sense, the linguists who painstakingly produce phonetic lists of foreign leaders’ and countries’ names – not to mention the Plastic Turkey Producers of America, who are in for some rough economic times.

How will photographers be able to do their jobs in a world that allows crowds to run wild, instead of operating in the disciplined atmosphere of the carefully-staged photo-op? Where will the bottom-screen-crawl writers find work when their networks realize that they no longer need an entire department to spin the disastrous news about Iraq, the economy, and the environment into something positive?

And dare I even mention the American Flag Lapel-Pin Workers of China, who will be bankrupted when word gets out that wearing said pin on one’s lapel does not equal patriotism?

We dismiss such things at our own peril, especially the international repercussions; exactly what will happen to the worldwide Burnable-Bush-in-Effigy industry, you might well ask? Will the “Your President is a War Criminal” and “Ship Him Off to the Hague” sign-makers ever survive the downturn in business?

Let’s face facts, my friends. A Democrat in the Oval Office is going to cause a myriad of problems that the current administration never had to deal with.

Are we up to the challenge? Only time will tell …

2. Republicans drain the Treasury for political gain.
Democrats force austerity and discipline on the country until it's somewhat fixed.

The republicans with their have-more money convince the gullible to vote republican again.

Lather-Rinse-Repeat.

4. Hey, Nance, You forgot one very important group of
workers. Those who put together the "George W. Bushisms" calendar I buy for my husband every Christmas. If Obama or Clinton is elected, the English language will be once again spoken in the USA and if McCain is elected (heaven forbid), then all we can expect is the "MY Friends" calendar. How boring is that???

5. Nobody's dismissing ANYTHING. I've seen it here a dozen times as well
as having posted myself that the Democrat that takes the White House, if a Democrat takes the White House, will inherit one hell of a mess.

Why not take it one step at a time and win the election? That's enough to worry about for now. It's the only problem we can do anything about AT THIS TIME. And if we don't take the White House, this is all moot anyway.

We'll have to wait and see.

But I think I'd give you odds that not much happens to punish the loyal bushies.

In the spirit of "reaching across the aisle" and "healing" they'll be let off the hook, just like after Nixon, like after Reagan.

Cheney has been working his magic since Nixon - who in the Bush administration will we be facing in ten or twenty years?

See post #2 on this thread: "Rinse, Lather, Repeat"

Doesn't anyone recognize "good cop/bad cop" when they see it?

9. In all seriousness, I wonder how the next Pres WON'T fail
Bushco will leave one of the biggest shit holes on record. And trust me on this, MOST of the shit they created won't be delivered until the next president's first term. No matter how many septic companies the next president hires, there's just not a chance all the shit will get cleaned up within 8 years, let alone 4.

Worse, the next president has a window of maybe 3 months before the lefter folk and righter folk decide the new presidency is a massive failure that should be abandoned and/or impeached.

32. Or that Bush/Cheney will be gone.
After the last 7 years and all the shit they have pulled and power they have grabbed, a big October domestic terror attack (real or manufactured), followed by election/Constitution suspension would not surprise me one bit. I truly hope I'm just being paranoid, but I've seen things engineered and effected by this regime in the last 7 years that I never thought I'd see in my lifetime...or that would pass basically unopposed by both a toothless, emasculated Congress and by the People, who are either just trying to survive the ongoing rape/collapse of our National Economy or too busy hypnotized/distracted/absorbed by 'American Idol'.

39. Golden Raisin, I feel the same way as you....
I've long thought it would be a miracle if the US has an Election in Novemeber. A friend of mine thought of a disturbing possibility: BO is the nominee. October he is assassinated by the jackals. Chaos. Martial Law.

I've mentioned this idea to people and no one has called me crazy. I pray this does not occur...but I do feel something will. Or maybe BO has signed on with The Corporations because those are the true rulers of this nation. BO wants to be Prez so badly that he made the deal. Who knows?

I, too, can't believe what I've seen in the past seven years....I'm either in a nightmare or in a book written by Orwell or Huxley.

Sometimes I think I need to get out of the country...but where to?

12. Prosecuting the Bushies will keep lawyers working for years.
Then there's de-redacting of government documents. That's slow and tedious restoration work.

Searching for lost e-mails could keep forensic hackers busy for a while, and retraining teachers to teach, and weaning them from test preparation is a formidable goal. And we'd have to reprogram the COWs to do something useful -- maybe giving milk to school children.

Scientists will be able to go back to work.

I don't know what the Chinese lapel pin workers will do. Let's send union organizers. Better yet, let's organize unions here!

And there must be a backlog of food that needs to be tested.

Yes, Nance, we have some work to do. It won't all be boredom.

the democratic president has to show that international policies will change, that the aggressions on other countries where the fruit of a single group that occupied the white house not of the wishes of the American people but is going to be a taf road since B* was elected no body in the international community will see the next president as an emissary of change if there are no concrete actions like ending the occupation of Iraq or dismissing the rhetoric on the axis of evils.

"Where will the scandals come from?"

I imagine the first time the newly elected Democratic President as much as breaks wind off camera, the republicans will be screaming for an independent prosecutor, especially since it has been so long since the POTUS done anything worthy of one. Then we can dump millions into the economy through an otherwise unnecessary investigation. Fox can pay people to talk about it 24/7, since it will be the most important issue of the day (according to them), and the crawl writers will be back in business.

So don't worry Nancy, the republicans know what really matters, and will look out for us all.
