Local repubs in trouble
might be Jersey but Cape May County is as RED as Red gets. ( tons of money here, you see...)
But, the poor lock steppers are having trouble lately. Here's hoping it's a trend...

Rift in Lower GOP prompts call for 'loyalty pledge'

Published: Saturday, March 01, 2008
LOWER TOWNSHIP - The local Republican organization is considering making candidates sign a "loyalty pledge" that they would not run against the party pick in a June primary.

At issue are candidates who seek the party's nod to run in an election, don't get it, and then turn around and challenge the endorsed candidate in the primary.

***********

"I don't know if I'd be comfortable signing anything like that," Armbruster said.

Armbruster, 47, of Shunpike Road in Erma, has been on the Zoning Board for 18 years. A union carpenter, he has also served on the Planning Board, Erma Volunteer Fire Co., Republican Club, Optimist Club and Cape May County Fire Communications Unit.

Armbruster said people have been urging him to run.

"They feel there's no direction with the current Republican leadership, and I feel the same. We need some change," Armbruster said.

3. The sounthern part of NM is blood red, too
but Udall is leading statewide for Domenici's seat. I'm pleasantly surprised about this, I thought for certain they'd fall for Heather Wilson's biennial "EEK! THEY'RE GOING TO CLOSE OUR BASES!!!!" bullshit. That's all that's kept the two of them in office election after election after all the military retirees here got up in arms about the PXes closing.

With all 3 state Representatives vying for the seat, all 3 Congressional seats are now in play unless Pearce and Wilson somehow get a clue and drop out to fight for their seats. Both have colossal egos, so that's about as likely as the Pope on a pogo stick.

Blue might be breaking out all over.

4. What a satisfying story.
I do hope that these ills are viral, and we see some of this spreading to Warren County.

Up here, the freeholders(2 large landholders and one developer/builder) cut programs, let employees of the county go, underfund departments, employ cronies as "consultants", and spend hundreds of thousands to fight The Highlands Act in court. Repukes all. We really need a change.

6. What we need...
Is some Dem Party "fire in the belly". Something that is, apparently, sadly lacking. We have a new county chairman, and he's a great guy, a DFA'er, but there are other players near the top with competing agendas and they sure can suck the air out of any room.

That said, we have a new guy coming along, just installed as a local committeeman. Young, scary-smart, aggressively Democrat and eats repuke clowns for snacks. 5 years from now, I expect he will be shaking shit up in this county. There is no way the repukes could find anyone who could successfully run against him. They simply could not debate him. His commands of both "the big picture" and the wonkish details of the minutiae is just too daunting. And he KNOWS what it means to be a Dem. Comes from a long line of populist Dems. It's in his DNA.
