The Nation: Will McCain Receive The Farrakhan Treatment?
WILL MCCAIN RECEIVE THE FARRAKHAN TREATMENT?...John McCain has put a statement supposedly clarifying his endorsement and campaign appearance yesterday with radical pastor John Hagee.

""Yesterday, Pastor John Hagee endorsed my candidacy for president in San Antonio, Texas. However, in no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not.

I am hopeful that Catholics, Protestants and all people of faith who share my vision for the future of America will respond to our message of defending innocent life, traditional marriage, and compassion for the most vulnerable in our society."

I am waiting for Tim Russert to press McCain on exactly which views of Hagee's he rejects. A preemptive strike on Iran? The failure of the Jews to accept the Lord? Referring to the Catholic Church as the "anti-Christ" and "Great Whore?"

More importantly, will McCain "reject and denounce" Hagee, as Obama was forced to do with Louis Farrakhan?

Clearly, the answer is no.

1. I'd like McCain to specify who "the most vulnerable in our society" are
9/10 chance of it being the top 1%ers and rabid fundies.

3. You know it's got to be the rabid fundamentalists -
they NEED to be persecuted, after all.

2. Obviously, Americans have not been programmed for a Hagee 'lightning rod effect'. nt

4. Of course not. Duh. That's just one of the cuter ways that white folks like to bully black folks....
... By implicitly associating them with any random "bad" black person they can think of, and then "challenge" the black guy to distance himself from the "bad" one, thus showing what a "good negro" he is.

The fun part is when "good whites" pretend to have no understanding of this dynamic whatsoever, which thus allows it to be used forever - because it's new *everytime* to "good whites*.

That's the predictable result of having the foxes guarding the henhouse.

5. Indeed, the simple fact that people consider these comparable cases is asinine...
... Since McCain ACTIVELY SOUGHT Hagee's endorsement, while Obama has NO connection with Farrakhan. And yet the foxes guarding the henhouse still tell me they're comparable situations.

I feel bad for the hens.
