3. I am the proud companion of a male cat who is healthier and happier,
thanks to neutering. He doesn't roam all over the place to find female cats in heat, he doesn't pick fights with stray (and unvaccinated) cats in the neighborhood over "territorial issues," and he doesn't help create stray kittens. :)

4. Me too. I had Skutch neutered as soon as possible and he just
hangs around my house and a few others. Everyone knows him, (and feeds him  ) If I go out in the backyard and call him he is home within 3 minutes unless it is in the middle of a sunny day in which case I am sure he is sleeping.

The new female kitty that adopted me recently is about 6 months according to the vet. He said he could not tell if she was spayed and that I should watch to see if she goes into heat in the spring. If so I'm taking her straight in to get fixed. I don't know any other way to do it unless they open her up to see if she has been fixed already. We can't find any stitches.

5. Odds Are She Is Not
Cats that are spayed and released generally receive an ear tattoo (part of ear nipped) so a vet will know. Most people responsible enough to spay a cat would not simply release the cat or turn it over to an animal shelter without notifying them that it had been.

Funny, I recently took in a feral 8 month old cat and the vet never even mentioned the possibility of it having been spayed before so I assume she would have found out during the procedure. (BTW, it only took her about 5 weeks to become a lap cat.)

9. Now I have to go inspect all the female cats in our family to see whether
they have a little notch in their ears. (They're all spayed.) I didn't know that little factoid. Thank you!

10. But what else can be done? I don't want her to have an unnecessary
operation. None of my female dogs or cats got a marking when they were spayed but they should have.

She certainly was not feral though. I think she was someone's pet and one of their kids shaved her because since I have had her some spots on her fur have filled in. Also she got here by just following my neighbor foot steps right over to my door. IOW she was a lap cat looking for a lap.

Here's her little self.

12. Awe, What A Cutie
And that certainly is an unusual shaving. Sorry, I don't have any other tips. I guess just watching her closely like your vet said will be the best way to tell.
