Happy thoughts; Republicans will be eliminated by ‘STD’.
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 12:49 AM by Dr_eldritch
I’ve been waiting to throw in on just this issue for some time. Mostly I’ve been putting it off because of the, let’s just say, vibrant nature of DU these last several months, and although I am rather certain that this particular issue has been brought up in different ways by many DUers, I would like to avoid designating this particular point as a partisan petard for the polemic perforation and percussive perturbation in defense of preferred parties or candidates. More pristinely put; this has become a universal positive for Democrats regardless of who may win the Democratic nomination, and in November, we are going to see something horrific happen to the ever more heinous and heretical Republican party…

“Straight Ticket Death”

(Nice ring to it, eh? My media player randomly selected Enya’s omninous “Pax Deorum” the moment I started typing it… Don Juan would say “The universe agrees”.)

Nationwide, Republicans will fall to terminal Straight Ticket Death. The symptoms are very clear and pronounced, and the prognosis is grim.

The symptoms include; Flip-Flopping, Pandering, Apathy, Irreversible Pundit Rejection, Hysteria, and the insufferable pseudo-bipartisanship no amount of expectorant can alleviate.

It has been evidenced, by statewide results, polling, and by DU itself, that turnout for the 2008 election by people ordinarily unacquainted with national politics will be a wee bit more than tremendous.

It doesn’t matter who the Democratic candidate is… Americans will turn out in droves this year and most of them will be Democrats. Those Americans may not be fully apprised of their local and state representative’s positions or views, but they know damn well they’ve been shafted. Those Americans who’ve come out to vote our way out of oblivion will likely have come out only to vote for the Democratic nominee. As so many of the last mooring lines of Republican support have failed or been severed, there is no ship for them anymore. They will stay put.

When the voters come out to vote for the Democratic Presidential nominee, so many of them will be so delightfully insensitive to local politics that they will register straight-ticket votes. While I don’t count this phenomenon as a good thing in and of itself, it spells disaster for all Republicans everywhere in the US.

The prognosis is terminal.
They, as a party, will perish from Straight Ticket Death. They will suffer Straight-Ticket-Deaths especially in North Eastern states. They will suffer Straight Ticket Deaths in Albuquerque, in Sarasota, in Nashua, in Miami, in Fargo, and in Augusta.
The Republican party will have it’s legs amputated by Straight Ticket Death in Atlanta, in Charlotte, in Trenton, and in Wichita.

By the second week of November 2008, the Demise of the Republican party by STD will sink in as a reality, and we Americans will have a window of opportunity during which their corporate orphan parasites will be seeking new nourishment from the leaders, and with which we may set new standards for the nation.

When the Republicans suffer the 2008 STD this November, there will be a chance to make changes. The only change I’m not sure of is what my registration will be… but I’m pretty sure it won’t be Republican anymore as they will likely become obsolete. From there, I can only say that I’ll be another American who watches his government for good or ill.

I’m calling it as of November.
Straight Ticket Death is serious.

Let us have a moment of silence for what was, at one point long ago and before it’s descent into corruption, a fair and just party.

Thank you.

1. Republicans haven't been "fair and just" since Lincoln.
These are the people that fought against child labor laws!

5. STD rejoicing?
I just don't get bashing 'Republicans.' Let me explain why: regular people, 'the persuadable middle' might register and vote mainly Republican -not straight ticket R- for a couple of major elections. Then along comes a candidate who inspires them, whose message resonates, and the persuadable middle will vote for a Democrat.

Demonising mainstream Republican voters is not good politics. Obama knows it. It's taken republican and democratic congesspeople and senators to screw up the system the way it is now. LOL They've done it together, from NAFTA to every little thing which gets griped about on DU.

Smart strategy is to refrain from alienating prospective converts. Our fellow Americans aren't generally our 'enemies.'
