Got this email forwarded from my mom (my reply-all)
Hard to believe about U of Kentucky.... probably has creationism in its curriculum as well..
And why does the Holocaust offend Muslims?
Who cares what they claim or why?

It's worth repeating over and over again......

If you don't forward anything else, forward this!!!!

EISENHOWER IN DACHAU

It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps, he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead..

He did this because he said in words to this effect:
'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing'.

This week, the University of Kentucky removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred.

This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.

This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the 6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russian peoples looking the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Be a link in the memorial chain and help distribute this around the world.

Don't just delete this.
It will only take a minute to pass this along.

Heres's my reply to all.....

All,

Please reference the link below. Although it is true that ONE history department in a Northern Kentucky University did stop teaching about the Holocaust to avoid confronting anti-Semitic sentiment among some Muslim students, it is NOT TRUE that all of the University of Kentucky has done so.

I find this kind of email to be the worst kind of xenophobic/Islamophobic propaganda. It mixes some truths and many fictions.

Yes, absolutely, we need to remember the Holocaust and make sure something like it never happens again. Always keep in mind that wide-spread fear and ignorance can lead US to be the persecutors of the next holocaust, if we are not careful.

Peace to all,

3. It's wrong if even one dept stopped teaching the historic truth because of religious bigots.
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 09:42 AM by alphafemale
If a certain group of intolerant Muslims stopped the Holocaust from being taught on a college campus ANYWHERE that is just as wrong as if Christians stopped evolution from being taught ANYWHERE.

You confront intolerance and ignorance. You don't let it reign.

6. Agreed.
In my Mom's defense, she followed up (before I did, I just hadn't seen it yet) with a link to the denial by UK.

4. Republican liemails are being sent fast and furious...

in commemoration of the impending general election.

Edit: Please note, you said in your OP, "Although it is true that ONE history department in a Northern Kentucky University did stop teaching about the Holocaust..."

This is not true. The original version of this liemail claimed that all schools in the United Kingdom had stopped teaching about the Holocaust in their history classes. As pointed out in the Snopes article, one history department in a northern UK (United Kingdom) city did stop teaching about the Holocaust because it wished to avoid confronting anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim pupils.

Versions that began circulating in September 2007 altered "UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum" to "University of Kentucky removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum." According to the University of Kentucky:

The University of Kentucky has announced that a rumor, claiming the school has removed Holocaust material from its curriculum, is not true. The false claim has been circulated via e-mail.

The Judaic Studies Program of the University of Kentucky, in conjunction with the College of Arts and Sciences Department of History, offers a course designated as History 323: The Holocaust.

According to an explanation found on the investigative Web site Snopes.com, a message claiming that schools in the United Kingdom would no longer teach about the Holocaust in their history classes began to circulate via e-mail forwards dated back to April 2007. As the message wound its way across the Internet, someone took the abbreviation for the United Kingdom (UK) to stand for the University of Kentucky, and altered the message to implicate the institution. This version has been forwarded to several people and understandably raised concern among alumni, students and other friends of the University of Kentucky.

The original message about the United Kingdom is of uncertain veracity, and any statement linking the University of Kentucky with this rumor is completely false.

I don't mean to come across as being critical of you. You have done well to have hit Snopes to come up with the rebuttal.

Hint: Snopes won't let you copy and paste from their site. But if you print to file you can copy from the resulting file.

5. Re-read the snopes page, you missed claimed that one history dept
in northern Kentucky uni dropped the holocaust. It wasn't Kentucky U that dropped it, it was one school in the nortern United Kingdom that dropped the holocaust. Last I knew Britain wasn't a part of Kentucky or a part of the USA.

10. If anyplace, anywhere cowered to religious bigots that is wrong.
That's bullshit.

Professors of history should just say, "It happened. If you can't deal with the truth shut the fuck up. Get the fuck out and take your fucking F for this course. But you will not disrupt my class." Problem solved.

I'd say the same if radical Christians tried to stop the teaching of evolution on a college campus.

12. Nobody.
Most people have no clue about the genocide of the indigenous people of our country.

That makes the holocaust in Europe pale by comparison.

But even if it were in their faces I doubt most would care or even pause.

Sorry to say.

this could be found to be untrue with a 5 second Google search. It amazes me how gullible people can be.

14. ....furthermore, the "U.K." originally referred to is the UNITED KINGDOM;
some twits who obviously didn't know that 'UK' refers to a country..and NOT just 'University of Kentucky'. The 'northern UK university' reference has morphed into 'university in northern Kentucky'. Amazing how shit like this can evolve (or, devolve in this case).
