Is there a limit to the 'ignore list'?
Mine is steadily growing every day, I'm afraid by the time primary season is over, it'll get too full :(

2. Why do you ignore people?
Isn't that on the same level as sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "I CANT HEAR YOU!!!!!"?

Don't take this personally. I know how you feel. There are total idiots and dipshits on both sides of the asile but I find confronting their bullshit is much more effective than just ignoring it.

6. No. Actually, most dog trainers say that ignoring a bad behavior
is more productive than punishing it. lol

It's also a matter of how much energy you want to invest in something that isn't ultimately that important and you have little control over.

"Let it go" are three great words.

4. Mine's a little longer than it was before primary madness
took hold, but it's still under 10. I fully expect it to be under 5 in the next couple of months after a couple of habitual insulters are among the dearly departed.

Mine isn't growing because I've hidden GDP. I did that the day Edwards was forced out since I no longer had a horse in the race.

5. Anyone who says they won't vote for the (D) nominee in November goes on my list
And the list is growing. I'd say about two thirds are Obama supporters who won't vote for her, but there has lately been a steady rise in Hillary supporters who are now saying that they won't vote for him.

I guess when you lose a primary that's the only way to get even with the candidate you lost to: let the Republican win.

Maybe I'm not a good enough person to have no one on ignore. But I know for a fact that having a list has saved this board really dumb stuff. I love ignore and I probably am only still here because of ignore.

37. Am I missing something?
Praise Elad for the "ignore" function. I am at a loss to understand how some consider themselves somehow "superior" for not using it. I have neither INTEREST nor TIME to discuss quantum physics with 6 year-olds.

Each should make use of it as s/he sees fit. I find it eliminates clutter, shortens page views and makes my DU experience more enjoyable.

Rabidness in trying to convince others to his/her belief & outrageous claims, with a strong need for attention, will earn an ignore from me.

34. With very few exceptions, those with the longest ignore lists have the least logic in their posts.
ASSertions and posturing and self-righteous rants ... but very, very little balance and weighing of the pros and cons.

If you are in a communityof 100,000+, at a least a small percentage of those people are ones that you wouldn't ever want to interact with.

Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 04:47 PM by Perry Logan
Overuse of the ignore list seems like hiding. I can see some uses for it--like if someone is really harassing you or giving you grief. But for the most part, I want to see what everyone is saying, whether I like it or not.

41. Misuse of the ignore function explains the irrationality of the pro-Obama posts at DU, by the way.
Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 06:54 PM by Perry Logan
My theory is that the really crazy Obama people (you know--the ones that even the OTHER Obama people think are crazy) have placed virtually everyone who disagrees with them--i.e., all decent people--on "ignore."

They thus remain completely unaware that all of their bullshit accusations against Hillary get debunked five minutes after they've posted them (fresh from having made them up).

That's why so many of the pro-Obama posts seem to come from a delusional Bizarro World or drug hallucination. Let this be a warning to you against overuse of the ignore button.

44. I have never ignored someone
and I have been in a ton of arguments, some that got personal and heated, sometimes my fault sometimes the other.

I don't say that to come across as better than thou, I just never thought about doing it and now I am thinking why haven't I ever ignored someone. May need to digest this. Maybe cause I never gave it so much power on here. I have in real life, but I guess I never thought I couldn't ever hear someone's opinion no matter how much I may disagree with them.
