Sunday booze bill advances with date change
The Finance Committee in the state House approved a bill permitting Sunday liquor sales after lawmakers moved forward the effective date of the legislation to July 1 from Nov. 1.
The bill, SB 82, cleared the Finance Committee in a 9-1 vote. It now goes to the Appropriations Committee. After that, the measure would go to the full House.
The bill already has cleared the Senate.
The bill's House sponsor, Rep. Cheri Jahn, D-Wheat Ridge, said she wanted to move the effective date ahead so that it would coincide with the state's fiscal year.
The July 1 date also is when most new bills approved by the legislature and signed by the governor go into effect, she noted.
