Seized laptop shows Chavez's rebel ties
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080306/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/colombia_farc_laptop

By FRANK BAJAK, Associated Press Writer

BOGOTA, Colombia - Files in a laptop computer seized from the wreckage of a Colombian rebel camp in Ecuador offer new insights into Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's desire to undermine Colombia's U.S.-allied government.

If authentic, the computer files suggest Chavez has been in league with the rebels for more than a decade.

While Chavez is not one of the correspondents, his sentiments are conveyed in numerous messages exchanged by the rebels.

Venezuela contends the texts are lies and fabrications.

If so, they are expertly done.

Not only do they offer an unprecedented glimpse into the rebels' mind-set, they also reflect deepening rebel contacts with European governments and even representatives of the United States, who have tried to negotiate the release of dozens of hostages.

Googling Laptops of Death

by emptywheel

"...According to one official with access to the material, a "walk-in" source approached U.S intelligence earlier this month with more than 1,000 pages purported to be Iranian drawings and technical documents,

The same article went on to explain that this walk-in "was not previously known to U.S. intelligence" and the laptop of death he turned over "does not mention uranium or any other area of Iran's known nuclear program...

So that's the backstory to this googly sanctions thing--a laptop with dodgy provenance that the Administration likes to roll out every time the UN or IAEA challenges US assertions that Iran has a real nuclear program..."

5. I don't believe a friggin' word of it
not one single solitary word considering how the Columbian government is joined at the hip with Bushco. Columbia has no credibility because of their relationship with the US.

SOrry, but say maybe it's true, but Columbia still has no credibility and that's what they get for tying tails and selling their souls to Bushco.

10. This is obviously a Black Ops set up.
Things like this have happened before. Be careful what you read. It's now on the record and common knowledge that the CIA gave LSD to unsuspecting people. There is more to be known and that is known that has not been said or uncovered. The number of dictators this country has set up in the past just to have an enemy to destroy is something beyond the pale. I wonder how many people that have posted on DU have had that proverbial knock at the door to question their patriotism. Guess what folks. That's next. :dem:

14. Oh, Venezuela, the United States, and European governments
all have deepening ties with the Colombian rebels. Odd headline then. What exactly was the point? Oh, I see, the point is to miscontrue the actual information and portray the deepening ties of Venezuela as different somehow than the "deepening rebel contacts with European government and even representatives of the United States". In other words, the headline is a misleading 'word byte' intended to disinform the casual reader and provide false news with the usual bullshit. Thanks rightwing troll AP editor.

And FRANK BAJAK, you should know that unless you yourself are an expert on document authenticity, that you should cite the source of opinions such as "If so, they are expertly done" rather than simply plunk that out there as if it were an uncontested fact. For example, in the above paragraph you wrote "Venezuela contends the texts are lies and fabrications". See how we can clearly identify that opinion as sourced from 'Venezuela' and understand that perhaps 'Venezuela' might have some interest in portraying the alleged documents as bogus?
