Bobby sent a name to JFK for nomination to the NLRB in late '62. That name was Howard Jenkins, Jr., a Republican. Fourteen years after Bobbi's death, one of the last decisions by member Jenkins would be the deciding vote on my labor case. A case that started when I was fired for union organizing in 1980. Jenkins voted for my case. The NLRB decision was later upheld by the Court of Appeals in St. Louis. Something so small twenty years before, would affect me the rest of my life.

When I was 11 years old, I went door to door for Bobbi in late May of '68.

My invitation for next week:

Food, draught beer and soft drinks will be available for no charge.

Kathleen, the eldest child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy and the former Lt. Governor of Maryland, will give a presentation titled Failing America's Faithful: How America's Churches Are Mixing God With Politics and Losing Their Way, based on her book of the same title that was released earlier this year.

In its March 15, 2007 publication, The Library Journal had this to say in their review of Kathleen's book:

"Drawing on her personal story of faith, her family’s commitment to social justice, and her political experience as Maryland lieutenant governor, Townsend issues a carefully wrought call to churches-Catholic and Protestant alike-to evaluate to what extent religion has become politicized and to refocus on working for the common good."

We are very proud to welcome Kathleen to Nebraska to help us in our efforts to educate Catholic voters and bring them back to the Democratic Party "one pew at a time".

Please contact me if you are available to volunteer time to help us in the planning of the event-that would be greatly appreciated. Our goal is the fill the hall with no seats to spare. Please make sure to share the word with family and friends alike.

If you'd like to purchase tickets, please contact Jim Begley via e-mail at

Sarpy County Democrats Are Encouraged To Attend!

Regards,

Omaha Steve

1. Hope you enjoy meeting her. I had seen that book on sale ...
and thought the title was provocative. There ARE religious people who want to maintain the separation of church and state, for the sake of good faith as well as good government -- it's not just us wild-eyed atheists.

2. cool.
But you may as well be on the other side of the world. Nebraska would implode if I stepped foot in it. LOL Love your story though.

3. I have got to stop posting when I'm in a hurry

The title "something Bobbi did the affected me personally in 1982" should have read this "something Bobbi did that affected me personally in 1982". I think most people figured it out. It was late April or early May when I went door to door for Bobbi.

I had just got home from the labor cope gathering. It is basically a chance for labor leaders to meet candidates endorsed by the local labor council for the May primaries. I knew I had time for just that post before heading to bed. I took today off because my shoulder is bothering me. After seeing the doctor, I should be back to posting this afternoon.
