Do you ever feel like the news will drive you mad?
I guess I don't really mean it would, but hearing so much negative, depressing news makes me think:

"Oh, God, what is the use?"
"I wish I could just get away from all this."
"I almost wish I was like so many of the Americans who don't know what's going on."

I keep thinking I should stay away from DU (and of course, DU isn't the problem; it doesn't CAUSE all these things to happen). I don't spend as much time in LBN/GD as I used to, and for some time now I don't go into GD-P.

I have been backing off from reading so much political stuff as I used to (turned in WHEN CORPORATIONS RULE THE WORLD, unfinished, to the library yesterday). I think I'm burned out.

1. I stopped watching broadcast news altogether for that reason
I keep up with news on the internet, but even then the level at which we are descending into fascism makes me very, very sad.

So yes, I feel all the ways you mentioned.

2. Find something hopeful I suppose and expose yourself to that

3. I do fear that the news plays hell with my blood pressure.
Especially the screaming debates by the talking heads.

I agree it's good to take a break from the news occasionally -- politics in particular.

Just think, there are people out there who never give current events a second thought. They must sleep very well at night.

6. I don't watch the news on television...
but I think what I've learned on the internet is far more depressing than what is said on the various talk shows. The fact that so few people will see this stuff magnifies the feelings of powerlessness. When it really bums me out, I think about history, and how much people have endured. How many empires have come and gone. And how many people have felt like I do now. And what it might be like to be an Iraqi.

9. MSM news makes me wonder about the rampant stupidity afflicting our nation
And I hit my *I've had enough* level months ago. But DU is a great resource for reading important stuff, and posters like Kpete and Bobbolink post the relevant posts I want to read.

Other than cartoons and old movies - I don't watch much TV anymore.

10. I pretty much stopped watching the news soon after Raygun was elected
I was sickened by news casters interperting what Raygun said so it made sense. Lets face facts, the 3 top stories in the news is, either a child rapist or a terrotrist is going to strike you or family any second now, The economy is booming and GW saved a Iraqi child or GW was on vacation and took time off his busy day to help a blind woman cross a street. Well hell I know anything about GW is made up, but the way the news has made him a super hero, it kills me. Or the big bad Dem's are trying to under mine the justice system.

11. I feel the same way.
I get most of my news here, but I feel burnt-out and sick of it all now. I'm not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel anymore.

12. I have been feeling the same way
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 10:44 AM by MotorCityMan
I have been following * and co. since the 2000 election travesty. My late partner thought I was over-reacting to what was going on, and used to say to me "How much damage could he really do?"

Well, Mike is gone now and I can't say "I told you so." Six years ago, I wouldn't have believed just how bad they would f*ck things up.

I have been following the news less. It is very depressing and it does bring on that hopeless feeling.

The thing that bothers me the most, though, is I have almost no hope that the * admin criminals will be prosecuted for their crimes. I am so disgusted with Congress not doing their job; I hope they will pursue the criminals when they are out of office, but haven't much hope there.

I think they're going to just walk away, like Reagan and daddy did, with no accountability.
