Senate Democrats Hope for a Majority Not Seen in 30 Years: 60 Seats
For Democrats hoping the November elections set off a seismic shift in Washington, the dream scenario is not just capturing the White House, but also winning a filibuster-proof majority of 60 seats in the Senate — a luxury no president has enjoyed since Jimmy Carter 30 years ago.

As far-fetched as that might seem — Democrats now control the Senate by a razor-thin 51 to 49, thanks only to two independents who vote with them — some Democrats have started thinking aloud that such a scenario is within reach.

From the Northeast to the Southwest, the Democrats have such a strong hand in this year’s Senate contests that they sense the possibility of victories in unlikely states like Oklahoma and Mississippi, and now even Alaska, which last elected a Democratic senator in 1974.

2. Yup. To be filibuster-proof they'd need about 65 calling themselves "Democrats."
Even then I wouldn't bet on it.

7. Crawl, Walk, Run, Fly
Two years ago there were articles saying the same possibility existed for teh GOOP...Democrats were on the abyss of political oblivion. Thank goodness that didn't happen. How soon many forget how big of a hole this party got itself into for nearly a decade. The party has made a comeback thanks to progressives and an awakening middle class, but this is a long-term job...outside and inside the party.

There are a slate of dynamic Progressives on ballots across the country...the next "class" that can transform this country in the future and return some sanity and fairness to this country. Look in your area or your state, good chance there's a Progressive candidate that could use a hand...and its one step closer to a better future.

We'll never be "rid" of Conservatives...either of the GOOP stripe. Their shortsightedness and ignorance is about to deliver them an electoral rebuke like we haven't seen in American history, but they still won't get the message. There'll also be Conservatives within the Democratic party...and right be it so...this party is supposed to be one of inclusion, not exclusion. We may disagree on some issues, but there's more common cause than not...and I'd rather work with Conservatives within than play the partisan games that have so destroyed the country.

Cheers...

3. Great Hope for America
Look at what the Republicans managed without a filibuster proof majority. We can still get things done!
