Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican
By John Gray Cincinnati, Ohio

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised. All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican's would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host's keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, "We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I'm a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have".

3. I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, i just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords...

4. Let's See Joe Republican--3 Years Later
Edited on Fri Mar-07-08 09:00 AM by Demeter
Joe wakes up in the homeless shelter: a dusty cinderblock warehouse for the discards of Bush's economic planning. His job was shipped overseas when the union insisted on going on strike against cuts in health care.

Joe's wife and children are living in Section 8 housing--his wife divorced him when he bitched about her inability to keep house and work 40 hours to keep the family afloat. She's keeping the kids alive, at least.

Joe's father died and the farm was sold to pay medical bills, taxes and the funeral. Joe lived in his car until the police caught up with him, after the battery died from constant radio usage to hear Rush Limbaugh.

7. I love this piece, but...
I wish it wasn't riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. I would urge people passing it on to correct these. No reason why our side should be a walking advertisement for the dumbing down of the American electorate by the other side.

8. How about this variation...
Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican living in a far-right, free market paradise.
By John Gray Cincinnati, Ohio

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of water that he's had to let settle overnight because some conservative fought against minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications may not be safe to take because some conservatives fought to compromise their safety in pursuit of maximum profits. The price for his medications goes up every year and his employer's medical plan pays less of the cost because they can't or won't afford the greed of the drug companies. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe's bacon is may not be safe to eat because some conservative fought against laws to regulate the meat packing industry and his eggs may be contaminated with salmonella from a factory farm. No soft-boiled for Joe this morning.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained, however, conservatives consider this an intrusion in the company's business and the FDA is too overworked and understaffed to check on the safety of those ingredients. Joe dresses in clothing made in China, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes smells of factory farm wastes and is full of particulate from nearby plants because conservatives refuse to enforce environmental laws. He walks to the subway station with its every increasing fares for a ride to work; it still saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees since gas prices have soared. However, he is embarrassed by conservatives driving by in their gas-guzzling Hummer, jeering at him for waiting for a train.

Joe begins his work day; he had a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation but he is now training his H1-B visa replacement and is calculating how long it might take him to get another job when the too-short period of unemployment benefits runs out. He will probably lose his home because the unregulated mortgage broker who sold him his subprime loan didn't tell him that he would have qualified for a better one that would have paid the broker less money.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC but that may not be enough to protect us from unscrupulous bankers who have worked hard to undermine our banking system and pocket the profits.
Joe has to pay his readjusted ARM mortgage and his student loan that his own university is using to make profits because some conservatives don't care if anyone other than their friends and family does well in this economy. They think government is there for their private enrichment, anyway.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because it's Japanese and made by a company that cares about safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican's would still be sitting in the dark) He may be the last generation there because his father is in danger of losing the house due to being tricked into reverse mortgage loan, the proceeds of which the broker had put into dubious investments

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security, which the GOP keeps threatening to do away with, and his union pension which is under assault because the company siphoned off some of the pension money into profits for the CEO and is looking to declare bankruptcy to divest itself of further obligations. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host's keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, "We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, it's my own fault I have such a crappy life. I guess I should look into that new megachurch in the next town; that will solve all my problems."

Anyone who'd like to tweak this further is welcome to.

9. Joe needs to be reminded of that, but..
Joe, being the selfish idiot he is, voted against his best interests IOT "help the over-taxed rich" by casting his vote for Bush*. Bush* is cool and I could have a beer with him, says Joe. The business-friendly politicians he voted for let business do what they want, so Joe is laid off because his job was outsourced and sent overseas. :(
