Appreciation of Judi Lynn's social justice posts.
I posted this thread in the Latin America forum but I also want to post it here.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=405x2503

Judi Lynn is a treasure in LBN as well as in the LA forum. She has taught me so much and is such a gift to DU.

Judi Lynn pushes through the corporate reports to lay bare the bones of any issue she takes up. We're so lucky that she takes the trouble to drill down and report back.

Judi Lynn, thank you so much.

She can work through the Miami Herald and cull information without bringing away their big hanging hias.

29. Let me add my kudos and laurel wreaths to the greatest Latin American news researcher
in the world, and the conscience of our nation on human rights, social justice and peace in our hemisphere.

I have never seen such passionate devotion to the truth, complete with awesome archives of photos and articles, going back decades, and linking the present to the past. Who is Alvaro Uribe, you may ask, who just invaded Ecuador at Bush's instigation? (Medelin Cartel go-to guy, now president of fascist Colombia, and good buds with Jr.--she's got the photos and the documentation.) What are Venezuelans reacting against, in their past, when they give 60+% vote margins to Hugo Chavez in presidential elections, and a 70% approval rating, and the most positive approval ratings of their democracy in all of South America? (She's got the photos of the massacre of poor leftist protesters by the previous regime, or of current rightwing 'brownshirt' thuggery, to explain what's going on there, and why Chavez's LAWFULNESS and the benefits of his social justice policies are so apparent to the great majority of Venezuelans --and not to our defamation news media). Why are the fascist pigs who slaughtered 200,000 Mayan villagers in Guatemala in the 1980s, in collusion with Ronald Reagan, still running around freely? (Failed "truth and reconciliation" process that let them off too easily, as has also happened in Colombia.) Ask her anything! She knows the history, the current story, the connections of past figures to current actors, an encyclopedic knowledge of names, dates, dictators, fascist monsters, U.S. skulduggery and interventions, drug connections, good guys, bad guys, fiends and martyrs, social movements, protests...I am not kidding. Ask her ANYTHING about Latin America!

She has been my teacher here at DU--and has taught me so much about Latin American history and U.S./Latin America relations. I can type decent English pretty fast, and I cannot keep up with her. She seems to be there, instantly, on every thread on this subject, with photos, background, reports, leaders' personal histories, pertinent facts, and heartfelt, intelligent, informed comment on current events--often with Original Posts of current news. She has put up a mighty battle against ignorance, indifference and malice--slaying all Freepers and "hit and run" posters, with their one-sentence repeats of the latest Bullshite/corporate "talking points."

A dragonslayer. A hero. An undauntable truth-teller. If we had DU Medals of Honor, Judi Lynn would be the first on my list.

Here's to you, Judi! Thank you with all my heart, for your awesome work at DU!

43. It's like seeing a miracle every day returning to a place where there are people who have made that
vital breakthrough, the sudden, pivotal discovery things are NOT as they have been represented to us.

All it takes is a small opening to allow the light to start flooding in, and it becomes a torrent. You recognize you've reached a point in your life from which you can never go back, and you are also astonished that people could have been so completely deceived.

I'm just getting started at this, because I was one of the duped, confounded Americans, too, until I started lurking on the old CNN message boards, looking over the shoulders of posters who were fighting tooth and toenail with the radical right-wing extremists from the old Batista supporting segment of the Miami Cubans.

Walked into it blind, read in silence for ages, became so intrigued I started taking notes to make sure I could remember and look these things up on my own.

The wildfire that created in my own inner world flowed into the growing suspicion that since I had been so wrong about Cuba, undoubtedly I was wrong about Latin America, too!

Once you start opening these doors, and seriously studying what you find, really taking them all to heart and living with them, you know you'll not be able to return to the way you were. You are changed, yourself, as you start suspecting you just may not know it all, after all!

I know very little more than I did, because there is so MUCH to find out. Every day gives us a chance to get one step ahead of our old ignorance. I am so thrilled we've got this access to information which would have taken so long to gather before the internetS. I am so grateful to have found this growing community of conscientious people (with a few tedious trolls wedged in here) with people who are aware of ,or a lot of the real history of American policy in Latin America.

You know Henry Kissinger regrets it, as he's attempted to justify himself time after time in the last years. He admits it was wrong. You've noticed the trolls who show up here to call us all "commies," or "useful idiots" or "apologists" make that wild leap in justification which Henry Kissinger himself won't attempt any longer. He admits it was wrong. He has done it openly, it's on tape. It's final.

DU'ers who contribute to these threads are bringing information to others, are also, simply by voicing their comments, encouraging others, confirming others, building a community of people we test, evaluate over time, get to "know" enough to recognize how serious (or not) they are.

It's wonderful believing that the truth will surface here, if it's humanly possible to find it through the news blackout on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Have you entered the zone, yet, in which you automatically check to see what the people at D.U. have found out about Latin American events when they happen? Priceless! Hoping it's here for us for a long time to come, as there is so much ahead which needs to go right, not right-wing.

It has been exciting learning more through association about the solid, knowledgeable DU'ers who anchor and drive this conversation and give it meaning, and create the unbelievable level of intelligence, depth, complexity, with mind-boggling skills and strengths. It means something when the conversation you've read continues to live on with you after you've logged off, and becomes a part of your inner landscape, available for recall, and questions.

Thank you for your kindness. This thread should concern you, as we surely share our resources, and it's a collaboration. We're definitely all in this together. :loveya: :grouphug:
