My 2nd LETTER FROM GOV SIEGELMAN-Written on a copy of NYT "TIME TO VOTE CONTEMPT":
Date of the article: 2/14/08

Underlined is the House needs to stop procrastinating and vote to hold witnesses in contempt for refusing to testify. Also underlined is Karl Rove, refusing to appear and the full House should vote to hold them in contempt. Judiciary Committee should go to court to enforce the contempt citations.

Gov Siegelman thanked me for my "uplifting words" and efforts to help bring attention to his plight.

Please join me in helping to obtain his release!

SO HERE IS SOMETHING I WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL DUers who are APPALLED THAT THIS IS OCCURRING IN OUR COUNTRY TO DO.

CLICK ON THIS LINK TO THE HOUSE JUDICIARY:

http://judiciary.house.gov/Contact.aspx

and write congress!

Encourage them to act immediately to seek the truth regarding this case. Hold witnesses in contempt for failing to testify. End the politicization of our Justice System by partisan politicians like Rove. Remind them that 52 former AGs, including Republicans have written to draw attention to this injustice!

Please take a small amount of your time to make a difference to the life of a good man.

Thank you! mod mom

2. NYT: "Time to Vote Contempt"
EDITORIAL
Time to Vote Contempt
Published: February 14, 2008
Alberto Gonzales may be out, but the country is still waiting for a full accounting of how he and his White House patrons cynically politicized the Justice Department. Congress is rightly asking questions about the actions of yet another United States attorney: New Jersey’s Christopher J. Christie. The House also needs to stop procrastinating and vote to hold witnesses in contempt for refusing to testify in the wider scandal.

Federal prosecutors must be scrupulously nonpartisan. Mr. Christie, a Republican activist who got his job despite a lack of trial and criminal-law experience, has gone up to the line of acceptable behavior — and possibly crossed it.

He began an investigation of Senator Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, late in a hard-fought election campaign. The charges now appear baseless, but at the time the news provided a big boost to Mr. Menendez’s Republican opponent. Mr. Christie went against a long Justice Department presumption against opening investigations or bringing indictments right before an election, to avoid affecting the outcome.

There are also questions about Mr. Christie’s decision to award, without competitive bidding, a lucrative contract to monitor a company accused of consumer fraud. The winner? Former Attorney General John Ashcroft, an influential Republican who was once Mr. Christie’s boss. Senate and House leaders have asked the Government Accountability Office to investigate.

3. Thanks for the diligence on Siegelman. I also think we should apply pressure to
senators on Kerry's committee to open the doors on THAT part of the investigation, because once that door gets opened, they could keep digging into other areas.

5. It was great to see Sen Kerry on Abrams last night regarding this. Everyone who learns of this case
is moved beyond words and hopefully to action.

I will also write Sen Kerry!

6. I wonder why the DNC wouldn't stand with Siegelman back in 2002 when all this started.

Why did all the Dem leaders ignore what was happening to him politically? The RNC protects it guilty lawmakers better than DNC protects its innocent ones.

7. They don't even give him paper with which to write.
These Bush gangsters may soon switch places with Gov. Siegelman.

Thanks for helping make a good man's painful experience more bearable.

12. We should include stamped envelopes to Siegelman with our letters.
We certainly don't want him to go broke.

13. My next letter to Governor Don
will go out in a large manilla envelope, containing blank paper, stamps and several stamped envelopes for him to use.

The letter will list all of the publications and bloggers (DU most definitely included) that are highlighting his story. I want him to know how many people are working for his release.

Recommend.

15. Done. I hope my rant was/is effective.
I am disgusted that this administration IS AN EXAMPLE OF A RULE BY MAN RATHER THAN LAW.

That was the core of my message to the committee,...if they will listen.
