Nebraska Democrat wants superdelegates tied to primary May 13

Democratic superdelegates in Nebraska may become less than free agents if Nebraska Democrat Vince Powers gets his way Saturday.

Powers wants five of the state's six superdelegates to back the Democratic presidential candidate that wins the state's May 13 primary.

Powers, who is a superdelegate and a Barack Obama supporter, said the idea is to make the state's primary relevant during this supercharged and tight-rope presidential nomination battle.

He also said it would be a way to answer criticism from presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton that caucuses are not true reflections of support because, she and her supporters have said, only a small minority take the time to attend caucuses.

"We would double our fun," said Powers, who is the state party’s national committeman and was behind the party's first-ever caucus last month.

Steve Achelpohl, chairman of the State Democratic Party and an undecided superdelegate, said he is open to the idea but worries about changing the rules in midstream.

1. I thought Nebraska already voted
And that Obama had won?

Or was that a caucus, to be followed later by a primary?

who thinks he can change the rules at will. This is a ridiculous idea. I just hope he doesn't get his way.

And yeah, we already had our caucus and Obama won.

2. "take time to attend"????? What a jackass

How does someone who works 3PM to 11PM go to a caucus. Or someone who doesn't have a car and the buses don't run to a caucus site in the evening? Or someone with small children even infants at home? Or someone with children waiting to be picked up from an activity. Or a student away at college. Or someone serving in the military.

Oh, I guess those people just choose not to attend. Why would people in those situations deserve to have a voice in a state that uses caucuses?

I don't know if this guy characterized what Hillary has said as they "take the time to attend" or if Hillary said it, either way it's wrong and insulting.

I don't care who wins caucuses, but please don't try to say the things are an any way some noble form of democracy they are not. They should be done away with, the very idea that young men and women from Iowa were dying in Iraq but couldn't have a say in who is nominated for president by whichever party they are in should disgust people enough, I guess there are some who would just say they "didn't take the time to attend."
