Poll question: Contact With Your Representative or Senators
Do you contact your Representative or Senators? Do you call their offices or the office of Committees they serve on? Have you ever been to a public presentation made by one of them or one of their representatives? Have you ever sent one of them a letter or E-mail? Have you ever seen one of them out in the world and just walked up, introduced yourself, and expressed your views?

Have you contacted them at all, do they know what you think, do they know how you expect them to represent your interests?

1. I have met with both my Senators and my Congressperson in person.
And discussed key issues with them. That and I've phoned them often.

3. I've met Rockefeller, not Byrd. I've met my current Rep, not his predecessor.
And I am on the phone to the local office at least once a week, either with phrase and with condemnation as the week's events require, and of course when I get fired up on an issue I call the Washington offices every other day. E-mails shoot out of here every day, sometimes they land on the Senate, sometimes on the House, sometimes on some poor unsuspecting bastard who never saw it comming.

4. I contact them and always get the form letter du jour
that doesn't explain anything, if they bother to acknowledge my existence at all

naturally, if they need money and are campaigning, I hear form them regularly.

5. Between my wife and I we have a stack of those letters 4" hight
We consider it the joke pile. No kidding. Thick as a book and not one dam word in any of it that shows the slightest hint of commitment to anything at all. Well, maybe not true. Byrd's letters tell you exactly what he thinks and how he intends to vote. He doesn't tell you he respects you opinion, he tells you what his opinion is and what he intends to do about it. We tend to agree so it doesn't bother me, but if I was a Republican I'd be fuming.

7. Emailed many in Congress and Senate
With my concerns about the Iraq War, demanding a full investigation as to the Bush Administration's case for war. I got some replies, of those were something like, "Thank you for contacting the office of Senator "Whoever", Please contact the Senator in your state..." and that was pretty much it. When contacting my state reps, I got "We appreciate your contacting us..." and that was about it....

The key is to do our own vetting of candidates before we vote for them..... Maybe that way we can eliminate the scum from the good ones....

9. I get emails from my Reps...
all the time. Cheery news about something worthwhile being done along with a request for a donation. When nothing comes of it, they provide the same old excuse but no solution to the inevitable failure. Like a broken record. "I share your concern"

8. I've contacted all of them
and gotten to know the responsive ones eventually. And the most responsive one is Senator Feingold. Now I'm on his committee. :)
