Let's DU this Neal Boortz poll that jokes about how he mocked a disabled child

I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.

Friday morning, Boortz used his radio show to http://newsprism.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/breaking-news-boortz-ridicules-9-year-old-with-learning-disability/">mock and ridicule the speech patterns of a mentally-challenged nine-year-old boy.

That same day, Boortz put up a poll asking, http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html">"Is Neal being too hard on that 10-year-old boy from North Georgia with the thick accent?" Scroll down for the poll.

The results:

Yes, he should lay off.....14%
No, he's spot on.....52%
mah diddy sez neil's bein ignert.....33%

Boortz's behavior is far, far, FAR worse than what Don Imus said about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

At the very least, he should be suspended and forced to apologize to the boy and the boy's family.

The best outcome would be a big fat check (money is Boortz's be all and end all) to help ensure the boy's future...

This time, this is the only related post under "My DU."

Please understand that I'm not promoting myself, but rather trying to get this story the coverage it deserves. I've been at it all weekend here, at HuffPo, on my blog, emailing every journalist with an inbox, writing letters to the editor...you get the picture. It's hard to get the attention of anyone with the stroke to put this on the media's radar screen.

Keith? Arianna? Skinner? Randi?

What I REALLY NEED is audio of the Friday morning Neal Boortz Show, from 10:30 am until noon.

Any advice from anybody???

10. Two answers

First answer...last week a piece of green ice fell from an airplane through the roof of Welch's Tire Shop in Lula, GA. A reporter recorded the owner, Gordon Welch, and his son, 9-year-old Jordan Welch, responding to the incident.

Boortz got a copy of the audiotape and played first the father, and then the son, mocking and ridiculing their Southern accents and the boy's obvious speech impediment.

I was so mad I googled the green ice story and discovered that the Welches live down the road from the college where I teach and from where my father used to live. So, I contacted the Welches and am now trying to get the boy some help, preferably from the DEEP pockets of Boortz, WSB, and Cox Communications (who, after all, are profiting from the child's suffering.)

Second answer...Neal loves to belittle people who aren't as sophisticated or intelligent (translation: RICH) as he is. I think he was mocked himself as a child, and now that he's successful (financially), he likes to lord it over others.

He often complains that his show isn't more popular nationwide because few stations want to take the chance of airing a Southern program. Sound like some psychological compensation to me.

Why not blame a mentally challenged child for the fact that you don't have another million in the bank?

Is it just me, or should this be a much bigger story than it is????
