Tucker Canceled; Other Programming Changes Ahead
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 05:42 PM by RamboLiberal
Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election. The official announcement, expected tomorrow, will include details about who will replace Tucker at 6pmET as well as other political programming additions. Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent.

In recent days, Jossip, as well as other blogs, ratcheted up the talk that Tucker would be replaced "for a new project." In its 33-month run, Carlson's show has had two names, four time slots and multiple formats. At 6pmET, it builds on its Harbdall lead-in on some days, but loses audience on others.

Carlson is expected to host the show through next week, with his new role and title to take effect March 17. We're told he'll also be reporting from the campaign trail.

They need to get rid of Lockup, To Catch A Predator, all the true-crime shows, the Charles Manson interviews, all of that garbage.

I want news, not fear-mongering. I'm tired of MSNBC going "LOOK AT THE SCARY PSYCHO GUYS!!! BE AFRAID!!! GIVE UP MORE OF YOUR LIBERTIES!!!"

44. I don't
GE is, after all, a war profiteer and perhaps they just want someone more subtle than Tucker to promote McCain and smear the Democratic nominee.

They also have a problem with women, so I do expect a woman to get the time slot.

My best guess - they'll give it to O'Donnell. She's been hosting their election coverage after Tweety/KO go off air and she also meets the news bunny looks requirement MSNBC has always taken. She gets a ton of air time as it is and that probably isn't accidental. She's also way senior to Maddow at MSNBC.

I wouldn't watch her, of course, just as I didn't watch Tucker.

Can it PLEASE be Rachel.

She's smart.

She's been 'adjusting' her appearance to be more 'teevee' and less 'radio'

She's smart.

She's been getting a lot of serious air time and been treated respectfully on MSNBC of late.

She's smart.

It would be more than cool to have an 'out' gay woman on teevee speaking about shit that has nothing to do with being gay or gay issues.

She's smart.

She's in possession of a great sense of humor, uses it, but never lets go of whatever her point might be in any given discussion.

She's smart.

I am in love with her.

65. Tucker confirms it
Michael Calderone at the Politico spoke with Carlson Sunday night, who confirmed that MSNBC canceled his show:

Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show "Tucker" has been canceled, with an announcement from the network coming tomorrow.

I spoke with Carlson this evening, and the host confirmed reports on media blogs in the past few days about the show getting canceled. But otherwise, Carlson declined comment at this time.

Carlson was on his way to New York where he'll appear on Joe Scarborough's "Morning Joe" at around 6:30. Have a feeling Scarborough will bring it up then.

76. Buh-bye to the bowtied fool!
He's been tanking for months. Good to see that MSNBC finally got the guts to can him! :woohoo:

Rachel's pretty busy with her show. I would put my $ on O'Donnell too, given the amount of face time she's gotten lately, and that "NBC News talent" line that was in there.

Tuckered Out?

TUCKER Carlson is about to be let go by MSNBC, a source tells Page Six. The lone conservative at the cable news channel apparently doesn't fit in at the increasingly left-leaning outfit. The preppie Carlson, 38 - known for his bow ties, on-air squabble with Jon Stewart, and a disastrous appearance on "Dancing With the Stars" - has been working without a contract since the end of 2006, when it was rumored he'd be axed. "He supposedly took a substantial pay cut to save his job," said our source. Carlson is married to Susan Andrews, with whom he has four children.

80. This is a shock
No doubt the talentless hack will get another chance. Guys like him and Dennis Miller never go away no matter how bad a rating history they have.

84. I'll bet he ends up on Fixed News...
They're just his style. Smarmy, hawkish, and crude. Why not send Tweety their way too?

86. New MSNBC Lineup
NEW YORK — March 10, 2008 — MSNBC, the Place for Politics, is expanding its already substantial political programming lineup next week as the 2008 presidential race continues to heat up. NBC News Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory will anchor "Race for the White House," a fast-paced daily look at the latest election news, weekdays, 6-7 p.m. ET on MSNBC. "Race for the White House" premieres Monday, March 17, and will continue through the election and beyond as the nation's focus continues on the historic Presidential campaign. Also bolstering MSNBC's political coverage, NBC News' Andrea Mitchell will anchor MSNBC each weekday afternoon, 1-2 p.m. ET

MSNBC's top-rated "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will now telecast twice in primetime, with a re-air weeknights at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. "Countdown" will also air weeknights at 11 p.m. PT/2 a.m. ET; the original telecast remains at 8 p.m. ET. MSNBC is also expanding the "doc block," which will now telecast weeknights, 11 p.m.-2 a.m. ET/8 p.m.-11 p.m. PT.

Also March 17, "Live with Dan Abrams" re-launches as "Verdict with Dan Abrams," an hour-long look at the day's news from a legal perspective, and expands to five nights a week. Each day "Verdict" will assess right from wrong and determine the winners and losers in politics, law and pop culture. In this political season, Abrams will continue to use his legal eye to stay "On Their Trail" separating fact from fiction, identifying and exposing the candidate's biggest misstatements, cheap shots and blunders, while continuing viewer-favorite segments "Beat the Press" and "Winners and Losers." "Verdict" will telecast weekdays, 9-10 p.m. ET.

"Race for the White House with David Gregory" will feature reports from MSNBC and NBC News correspondents around the country with the latest breaking political news and in-depth analysis of the campaigns. Tucker Carlson will remain with the network as MSNBC Senior Campaign Correspondent and will appear regularly throughout MSNBC's program lineup.
