Spitzer vs. Vitter: Why the Double-Standard?
I know what I think, so I am going to clam up about that. I want to know what the rest of DU thinks.

This is nothing new. Spitzer will be destroyed by these allegations. Vitter did not suffer a bit from identical allegations.

It goes way back, to the 3-ring 24/7 media circus Gary Condit had to endure over his association with Chandra Levy, while at the exact same time, Joe Scarborough's aide, Lori Klausutis, dies in his office and:

1) Scarborough's office issues a statement that she was in poor health. This was a LIE that was immediately debunked by the immediate family. Klausutis was in perfect health and was, in fact, a regular long-distance runner.

2) A crooked coroner was brought in who had already been tossed out of Missouri for falsifying autopsies.

3) Three weeks after the fact, said crooked coroner was busted (naturally, with no consequences to him for his actions) hiding the fact that he was lying about the cause of death, and that Klausutis had a large bruise on her forehead. "I didn't want there to be undue speculation about how she died," he said quite openly when confronted by the local media (this story was not permitted to be aired in the national MSM in a pattern so commonplace these days).

Time and time and time again, on literally dozens of different topics, we have seen this dynamic play out. Why?

2. I'm guessing it's about the letter following their name.
Actually, I'm not guessing. That's what it is.

3. wait for the facts
before assumptions are made

i know that's a lot to ask

did he merely pay for a prostitute or did he do more?

do you know?

i don't.

so comparing to vitter in terms of aftermath is premature.

no pun intended

7. Since Spitzer had previously prosecuted
prostitution while AG in NY, I'm sure it's a huge factor in the whole uproar.

Unfortunately, Spitzer's being held to a higher standard because of his previous role and what ultimately propelled him to the Governor's seat. Vitter only had the 'family values' standard and also a big fat R after his name.

8. Repubes get away with murder, Dems get impeached for having

'sex' with interns. Repubes get caught sending their maid out for illegal drugs and do no jailtime for it, Dems get thrown in jail on trumped up charges and don't even get a chance for an appeal.

Repubes are treated better and evidently get away with things Dems can't even dream of. Repubes are vermin, actually something right below vermin.
