Talk at the local PX
So I was at the deli picking up some stuff, and standing besides me this lady, sweet old lady who retired from the USN in '71

Don't ask how the conversation went to politics but it did...

I stated that the CURRENT crop of Republcians are bad for the military

She starts defending Duncan Hunter.

I start pointing out ACTUAL votes from Duncan about things that matter to her, like oh Tricare and benefits... and how they were not going to benefit HER.

That can't be...

Look it up, in fact I have a computer in the trunk, we can go and find a place with wifi and we can look up his VOTING record.

She took me on the dare.... which was surprising ... given how she was defending Duncan.

We looked back throughout his whole career and the pattern quickly emerged. You are a contractor... you'll; do fine by Duncan. You are a troop, not really... go ahead and die will yah?

Then I broke it to her, that Duncan, who she still defended... is retiring and his son will be the same old, same old... she was in shock.

Then I told her, his son's Dem opponent is a former Navy Man... she looked mildly interested. And he is also a veteran of the War on Terror, he is a retired SEAL.

I think I put some doubts in this lady. She asked, you are a dem?

Nope, I'm an Independent, but I vote my ECONOMIC interests, and you know what? The last few years the Republicans have not been good for MY Interests at any level. Hell, if a third party shows up and has a chance I will vote for it.

That was the clincher. This woman was left with some major doubts, since I was not making partisan statements, but INFORMED statements. Hell she felt a tad betrayed, Hunter has been telling her how good he is for the troops and votes against them when it comes to benefits and services... it was a moment of... my god they are lying to me!

Well, yes, their lips are moving... but also she felt betrayed because Duncan is a retired Navy man too.

One voter at a time ... that's how it needs to be done.

6. Good job, but I wish I could say this was uplifting...
The idea that it took ten minutes of basic homework with a total stranger to turn her heart is pretty discouraging. She'd made up her mind based on fluff and propaganda, before you ran into her. Ugh. How many more like her out there?

Can you go on tour?

You have to look hard nowadays to find any happiness, but with friends and family, it can be found at times.

9. Well done!
That's a great lesson in how to win over a swing voter.

Although I guess personal insults work sometimes too. :P
