Spitzer Will Resign Today

It's a sad story.

Paterson Makes Calls, Meets With Legislative Leaders

Albany sources confirm that LG David Paterson called legislative leaders late this afternoon saying he wanted to "start off on the right foot" during the "transition."

Paterson stopped short of saying outright that Gov. Eliot Spitzer is poised to resign - something that was expected to occur this evening, but did not, and now is speculated to be likely to take place sometime tomorrow morning.

According to a senior Republican staffer, Paterson's chat with Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco went "very well," although Tedisco did voice concern about the LG's "liberal positions." (On many issues, Paterson stands to the left of Spitzer, including the death penalty, and Spitzer's campaign didn't do much vetting of Paterson before bringing him on board in 2006).

Concerns aside, however, Tedisco and other legislative leaders are interested in working with Paterson at a time when the April 1 budget deadline is right around the corner and the state is facing a serious fiscal crisis.

Guy's a hypocrite, it's still a sad story. It's sad for those who believed in him, it's sad all around.

19. It's sad. He was so promising.
I remember when he ran for Atty Genl the first time and it was a squeaker - it was like ten days before they finished the recount. That was 1998. He was considered a presidential possibility. Now this. It's tragic. Not defending him, he did it to himself. But don't we all?

26. For information of those after his neck:
'Mr. Spitzer has not been charged with a crime. But one law enforcement official who has been briefed on the case said that Mr. Spitzer’s lawyers would probably meet soon with federal prosecutors to discuss any possible legal exposure. The official said the discussions were likely to focus not on prostitution, but on how it was paid for: Whether the payments from Mr. Spitzer to the service were made in a way to conceal their purpose and source. That could amount to a crime called structuring, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.'

29. Here is what pisses me off about this
McCain has a questionable relationship with a lobbyist and it is overlooked, but let a Democrat get caught and they do everything they can to bring him down.

I am not saying he should or shouldn't but just calling attention to the hypocrisy of the republicons
