Is it only politicians that like to further humiliate their wives....
...by making them get on camera with them and stand by their side after they get caught in a sex scandal? I really don't think it's the wife's idea myself.

Pricks!

1. It's really very sad. It's happening here in Detroit right now.
The "Text Message Scancal" which is basically a perjury case against Mayor Kilpatrick... He trotted his wife out on television last week too. But, in the end, I do believe it is the wife's decision to stick with it or go. I just couldn't do it myself.

5. Good morning MrsG
They all do it. The Clintons, the Vitters, the Craigs, etc. Just once I'd love to see the wife slap the guy in the face in front of the camera or have her own press conference saying, "Are there any good divorce attorneys out there?", "My husband has millions!"

Great to see you MrsG

2. I wouldn't do it
It has to be the most humiliating moment of their lives. And what did they do to deserve it? They should kick their man's ass and send him out there to explain it alone.

3. Don't think my husband would want me standing behind him
at this point -- dangerous place to be. It's so sad that our politics has come to this. He needs to say bye bye and stop this 24/7 'news' coverage.

4. Behind him
I agree with you. I'd be home packing up the kids and raiding the bank accounts. I'd be gone by the time he got back from his news conference. There is always the "Louisville" slugger to the right knee. (I own 2 and I know where they are.) I agree with Teresa Kerry, cheating husbands should be maimed.

6. I think it's the wife's choice to stand there or not. I don't question her judgment
in the matter.

7. Maybe that's why they all look so thrilled to be there
Unless it's a marriage of convenience and the marriage is more like a job than a relationship.

Which is even more of a crime in my opinion since two people of the same sex who really do care about each other cannot get married.

9. Sometimes in a marriage you choose to do even painful and sad things.
She has choices to make regarding herself, her marriage and her family.

I don't envy her, and I don't second guess her personal choices.

12. It may be a terrible choice...
...that the spouse must make quickly at what may be the low point of a marriage. A choice between sharing the spotlight of suspicion and staying home and confirming that suspicion sounds like a dilemma, indeed. I wouldn't wish such a decision on anyone.

a painful personal decision.

8. What I'd really like to hear the candidate say...
(well, I haven't thought out a whole speech)

Something about: I stand alone today, in recognition that the mess created here is of my own making. Whatever you may think about me or write about me, I hope you will leave my family out of all speculation. They do not deserve it. Thank you.

10. That would show some class and...
...possibly even some genuine remorse versus the typical "go get your hair done, get a new dress and stand next to me to show the whole world what a great guy I am, that you forgive me therefore so should everyone else".

21. Well I've seen more people I know personally get caught than politicians
And they don't throw a big party inviting all their friends or take their wife to their workplace, make them stand beside them and say they're sorry (that they got caught). No, normal people in the real world get mad and call their lawyers.

22. Normal people in the real world deal with infidelity in a lot of different ways.
It doesn't always result in calling lawyers.

It's a personal matter.

17. A Man of Moral Ambiguity Seeks a Woman Who Is Confused
and easily buffaloed. If he accidentally ends up with one with a sense of moral outrage, or ethics, the marriage ends in very ugly fashion. Then he can find a true bimbo the second time around.

Take Ron and Nancy Reagan, for example....and the long suffering and remarkably ever silent Jane Wyman.

nature of their marriage.

19. I was more disgusted by that then I was by his offense.
If he's able to go to a hooker by himself then he ought to stand up alone when he's caught. Give the wife a break for crying out loud.

...but it pales in comparison to Jim McGreevy's speech. His wife looked like she was hit by a truck. My empathy for her alone is what stops me from finding that situation with him completely hilarious.

26. I heard this monring that Spitzer's wife is actuall encouraging him to stay in office
So maybe we don't know how these wives really feel...myabe they are even more tied to the privelege and power than their husbands are. Also so McCreavey's wife say on NBC this monring that she stood by her husband's side for their daugther and that she was still in shock. She also said that just because you hear horrible news like cheating about you husband you can't turn of the switch automatically of spending years with this person. I think its very complicated having to live out the drama of something like this in the public eye.
