For The Sake Of The Party, Bill Clinton & Gray Davis Should Have Resigned.
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 09:46 AM by cryingshame
that seems to be what a heck of a lot of DU'ers are saying about Spitzer.

Since when did Mediawhores suddenly become so reliable?

This story went from yesterday being the product of a Prostitution Ring where Spitzer got caught and is now changed to Spitzer was investigated due to large money transfers.

As a NY resident whose life will be impacted by this, I am perfectly happy to see what Spitzer decides to do and further-

TO FIND OUT WHAT THE FULL STORY IS.

1. You know, Spitzer did make an interesting speech yesterday.
He didn't leave a lot of wiggle room.

7. Can you give me a list?
Or are the "many DU'ers" just something you pulled out of thin air?

8. I was here during that time period. Were you? If you were, you must not have been paying attention
go search the archives.

Although I don't remember if that happened on this current version of DU or the first version to which I no longer have the bookmark.

15. I felt - and continue to feel - that was arguable. Additionally, the public
was on his side, which is significant in a political decision.

16. What lie did he give under oath?
He was given a legal definition of sexual relations and he used that definition. Just because the layman's definition was different than the legal definition does not mean he lied under oath. He was never charged with any crime.

I think he should have introduced legislation legalizing prostitution in NY.

19. The Lie Was Not Material To The Case
Hence, no perjury. Lying under oath is not always a felony. In this case, i don't even believe it was a misdemeanor. So, no felony, no misdemeanor, no resignation. To have resigned would have been capitulation to witchhunt.

11. Actually the large financial transfers to shell companies is the disturbing part about this
If he was just having an affair with some random woman on the side, I don't think the concept of "resignation" would cross any DUer's mind.

13. Spitzer should resign ONLY if Diaper Boy Vitter resigns. And Larry Craig.
But of course IOKIYAR.

18. Why should Bill Clinton have resigned?
I'm not his biggest fan, but things went along pretty smoothly during his two administrations. He was still very popular when he left office, and I don't think most people were terribly offended by his tryst with Monica.
