SEOUL (AFP) - Former US president George H.W. Bush arrived in South Korea Tuesday for a private three-day trip at the invitation of a local defence firm, officials said.
Bush, president from 1989-93 and father of the current US leader, had lunch with Cho Yang-Ho, chairman of the parent group of South Korean flag carrier Korean Air, in the southern resort island of Jeju, a spokesman for the airline said.
Bush was due to attend a series of events organised by business groups, and planned to visit South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak on Wednesday, Lee's office said.
Yonhap news agency quoted diplomatic sources as saying Bush might seek a trip to North Korea in the hope of helping make a breakthrough in stalled nuclear disarmament talks.
