AFL-CIO to launch anti-McCain push

The AFL-CIO will announce tomorrow the start of a mult-million dollar campaign to tie John McCain to President Bush on the economy, according to a top labor official.

The union federation will focus on 17 typically-contested states to make the case that on taxes, trade, health care and Social Security McCain and Bush are one and the same.

"We want to educate our members and define him on economic issues," said the labor source.

They will do so through direct mail, workplace leafleting, email, phone banking and door-knocking.

They'll also launch a new website to serve as a repository of anti-McCain research on economic matters called "McCainRevealed."

Having not endorsed a Democratic candidate, the AFL will focus much of their time and resources this spring instead on going after McCain, helping to fill the void left by the lack of a nominee.

A union official declined to say exactly how much they would spend on the McCain effort, but they have allocated over $53 million for their overall grassroots political mobilization this cycle.

3. Good I really like their approach
Nailing him on the economy.

Not being derogatory on his service.

His service should be out of bounds, just no positives for going after him like Dole was savaged in 96 for his service in WW2 (See Rosie O'Donnell, Barbara Streisand et al).

:hi:
