The Right Wing sure knows how to distract everyone
Including DU it seems. 5 of the 10 "check for duplicates" posts are about hookers or Spitzer.

OH LOOK! HOOKERS!

Don't mind the 8 dead soldiers in Iraq, the economy on the edge of collapse, FISA being debated in the House, KBR poisoning the troops or anything trivial like that. :sarcasm:

Why do we (especially we at DU who should know better) always play right into their hands?

I'm still not convinced that it's not selective prosecution by Bush's toadie DOJ but that's another topic.

1. Adm. William J. Fallon, was another big issue to wrestle with today.
Don't even have time to catch your breath, before another biggy hits us.

6. Yea well Heidi Fleiss and Dennis Hof the ones on the "news" shows
Is it any wonder why most of the rest of the world looks at us as fools? Any talk of sex and we go ballistic about things that wouldn't even get a side glance in most places.

The shame is that while everyone in America knows Eliot Spitzer's name right now, more people should know Adm. Fallon's name and why he "resigned" today and what it means to us and the rest of the world.

3. Mr. Spitzer did this to himself. And I am able to pay attention to more
than just one story. The top story on my list is the ongoing strike of American Axle here in Detroit. Apparently not enough of those who back the union care about that, as the droppage of my threads on it will attest to.

7. Respectfully MrsG I'm sure you can pay attention to more than one story but...
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 06:46 PM by XOKCowboy
you and I both know most people can't/won't. All they know is what they hear from the MSM. I just get a little tired of DU falling into their trap. Spitzer is a minor story. As you said the story of American Axle should be of more importance to the people of America than a governor getting caught with his pants down.

9. How is this a defense for Spitzer? This is the second statement I have seen
about paying attention to more than one story. Is your point that this deserves to be the TOP story when 8 families set about burying their dead in this endless war? Then I think you are wrong.

14. My point is I can think about them both, at the same time.
I'm sorry that wasn't clear enough in my post.

4. It makes people feel good about themselves to post their own thread.
If they post in somebody else's, it makes them a follower. Hence the K&R crap. No decent discussion, just vapid pages of "yeah, what he said."

It's very frustrating to try and find new information buried in 15 duplicate posts from the same sources.

8. There is a simple answer to this, and I have said it a hundred times before.
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 07:09 PM by tom_paine
I'll say it again:

It is because no one, and I mean NO ONE is immune from the Bushies' False Reality Bubble, or Goebbels 2.0 or whatever the hell you want to call the grotesque dystopian fusion of hyper-media saturation with the massive progress of the sciences of advertising, psychology, PR, and marketing.

NO ONE. Not me, not you, not anyone reading this. It is a part of the environment. It is the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the thoughts we think.

We are the first human beings to ever be subjected to something like this, and there is simply no telling where we go after a generation or two of this madness except to say "out of the cradle, into college, then back to the cradle".

Here at DU, myself included, we like to think ourselves in some ways superior to the sheeple. To think that we can see through lies that few others can. This is, by and large true, but it blinds us also to the larger issue, that we are all "hooked through the bag" to the False Reality Construct, the Hologram (as Joe Bageant calls it).

Like the idiots who cannot ever believe It Could Happen Here, which attitude ironically ensures that one day It Would (and Did) Happen Here, we DUers are so certain that we are above the Cacophonous Carnival of MSM Nonsense and Perception Management that we also make it a certainty by our own surety that no WAY could we be caught up in it.

And, of course, we ARE caught up in it. Led around by the nose, discussing whatever the Bushies and their Propaganda Machine wish us to discuss. Oh, not as bad as the sheep that see and hear nothing, but bad enough.

"The fault Dear Cassius, lies not in our stars but in ourselves."
--Brutus in William Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar"

I don't know what the answer is except that I strongly suspect the time has long passed that there is an answer except to ride the Bushie-Nazi ride to the end, when we'll find out EXACTLY what their Final Solution to the Liberal Problem is.

If there was a time to find an answer, it was before this THING was allowed to metastasize unopposed into Conventional Wisdom, into this False Reality that passes for real, driven by TV, Internet, media, advertising, psychology, PR, marketing, and the rest of the Science of Lies as envisioned by Leo Strauss, may his poisoned soul rot in the lowest levels of hell.

We are now the mental equivalents of the 1930s Germans. Oh, some of the details are different, owing to the different time and nation, not to mention the fact that we had a much longer history of freedom to dismantle, but the root mentality is the same.

May God help us all, but if She didn't help us when Hitler or Stalin rose, what makes you think She is going to lift a finger to stop their "kinder and gentler little totalitarian cousins" the Bushies?

Sorry. Don't shoot the messenger because you don't like what is left of reality.

10. Wow!! Bravo!
Besides... Who can just concentrate on one topic all day, every day?
I think DUers like variety and I have seen a lot of threads since last
night about the 8 soldiers, the bad H2O there and here, gas prices, the
primary today in MS., misogyny, racism, fair pay, Jon Stewart & CP, etc...
Maybe I just look all over the board more, I don't know what others do.
I even found 3 very funny OP's today in GD-P no less!! We're all exhausted.
It's been a long 8 years and I for one will be glad to see Jan. 20th, 2009.

Thanks for that great read, tom_paine! I'm bookmarking it. ;)

11. I've had thoughts along those lines
and though I like to think myself above the fray and able to see the manipulation, I have a feeling that you are right. I also think I need a drink now that you put it so directly.

I guess that you're also right about DU. Amongst all the darkness here lately are still little beams of light shining on little bits of truth that keep us just a little bit ahead of those trying to indoctrinate us.

12. Don't forget the highest gas prices ever
Nothing stirs people up like $3.50 per gallon gas.

But hey we have a hooker scandal. So just fill up yer tank so you can get home and see the latest news on the Governor and $5,000 prostitute.

Not to mention Fallon retiring, which bodes badly for an attack on Iran.

Off to Houston Rodeo Friday, call you when I get back.

I'm outta here, I spent a few hours in GDP.. I need a shower.
