I sure hope I got that number right, because if not, I'm going to be might embarrassed.
Certain posts should be special - not a toss off comment or even a scoop for Latest Breaking News - unless of course it's the impeachment of the usurper.
#500, I think, should be one of them.
My dilemma, though, is a subject, a subject worthy of a 500th post in DemocraticUnderground. You see, though I still check the site several times a day, as I've done every day, except Jewish holidays and when the internet's been down, since election night 2004, when I found DU, I haven't posted in a while. Busy, Lazy, #500.
So what do I write about? The people I admire here, the resources I've found? Do I remind you all that when I had to gather my family and flee New Orleans, yes almost two and half years ago, not knowing what would happen to my house, DU was one of my anchors? And that when Katrina took away my father's strength, and this proud WWII vet's Alzheimer put him in a VA hospital, where he is, and will be, your sympathy gave me strength?
Do I remind you that on election night 2004, when I did not understand, I did not understand, your posts revealed to me a world of lies, of theft, of corruption so dark, that I finally understood, and have been saying now since that night - THE ELECTION OF 2004, as well as that of 2000, WAS STOLEN - saying to anyone who would listen, and to many who would not.
Do I mention that, as a teacher of writing, rhetoric and composition, I come here for ideas, references and fact checks?
In what way can I match the energy here? Oh, yes, we have lurkers and screechers and posters whose opinions seem well, as well grounded as a sink hole.
But DU is a home, a place I respect, a place I proudly support, however little I can afford. (No, this is not an appeal.)
Yeah, I know we're all hot and angry and shouting up our candidates. There's no place else, though, that is as orderly a free-for-all, and as reliable, and trustworthy and a place where every time I check in, I learn something. Every time.
So, to Skinner, and EarlG, and the rest of the founders, administrators and moderators - and to all the members here, even, especially if I disagree with you, thanks.
Thanks, DU.
Yeah, so it's a bit sentimental or whatever, but it's that or some really erudite, semi-scholarly analysis. And that I can give you any old time.
