5 Reasons I'm Glad Eliot Spitzer Is Stepping Down
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 11:37 AM by Crisco
1. Across the board, the "elites" of our nation have abandoned even the smallest show of honor. There is no greater evidence than the Wall St. cheers that Spitzer is getting his comeuppance. These are people who took common American investors for a ride, while they gamed the system for themselves and other elites. Spitzer's great - and only, really - crime here is hypocrisy and he knows it.

2. It makes David Vitter, Larry Craig, and Rush Limbaugh look like punes.

3. Whatever cards someone may have been trying to hold over him for blackmailing purposes, they now have none.

4. Free of politics, he'll be able to raise some NGO hell. (Assuming he's not jailed.)

5. NY gets a new, scandal-free governor who appears to be a well qualified, highly respected gentleman, to continue Spitzer's work.

ps - I was born in NY and lived there until 1991

1. TBH I'm not sure he was an awesome gov to begin with.
My off-the-cuff guess is that he doesn't compromise. Great for an AG, not so much for a gov.

3. Spitzer is disposable
We keep the NY governorship in Democratic hands. Patterson will get a fresh start. He'll be popular and a good bet for reelection. Just 2 seats and we can win the Senate to control NY redistricting in 2012. Then the NY Republican Party will be made extinct and all NY politics will be within the Democratic Party.
