United Church Of Christ - Rev Graylan Hagler & We Will Not Be Silenced
Hi,

With all this nonsense about Rev Wright, I thought I would remind all duers of We Will Not Be Silenced, www.wewillnotbesilenced.com , possibly one of the greatest pieces of anti-war agit prop of all time. The speaker is none other than Rev Graylan Hagler, of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C..

We Will Not Be Silenced celebrates its 5th year this year, it has inspired many anti-war activists around the world to stand up and protest against Bush and his illegal war.

Just a point

Peace

2. most welcome
I tried to repost the vid, but unfortunately it is archived, but I did think it would be a great reminder of the good the UCC has done.

Peace

3. I've been very amused by the newly found extreme patriotic voice among DUers.
I think all of us feel some level of patriotism, but DUers recognize the difference between reasoned patriotism and blind patriotic chanting so common among Freepers.

It is the silly season.

I have been lurking for months now, not wishing to get involved in the primary bloodbath, however, this latest attack on the UCC is simply wrong. WWNBS is neither left nor right, nor is it anti-american, in fact we get as many emails from RWers who have changed their opinion because of the power of the movies as we do from left wingers, and Rev Hagler`s brilliant rhetoric is a critical part of the message .

So, I personally find it disturbing that so many are willing to jump on the anti-UCC bandwagon.

6. what is worse
god damn america or joking when our troops were dying about not being able to find weapons of mass destruction to a bunch of right wing enablers?

Time to put rev wright`s comment into context, this has nothing to do with what he said, this is about attacking Obama.

We, however, will not be silenced :)

Peace

7. I have a hard time
with a Christian asking God to damn anyone, let alone a whole nation.

8. I hear you

however, this has turned to an all out attack to the UCC and what it stands for, which by default, Obama must be also for.

That is what is wrong with the current debate. I could also argue, that the statament "God Damn America" applies to an America typified by George Bush values. That is not the America I know and love.If America to you means death, debt, discrimination, war, poverty and so much more evil, in other words, George Bush`s America, then fair enough, I can understand why you would take offence at Rev Wright`s comments.

This is absolute nonsense, and is nothing more than manufactured outrage. You take one line out of context, I would suggest you listen to the whole sermon, and this then means Obama must believe the same.

This is the same jingoistic nationalistic hypocrisy that led to the Iraq war after 911 and it is vacuous, insincere false outrage with a political motivation.

Sorry, not gonna wash i`m afraid.

Peace

9. However I do believe
Rev. Wright's controversial sermons were being preached long before Bush became president.
Racism rhetoric is very offensive to me no matter who is espousing it.
I can blame Bush for a lot of things but not this one.

Sorry, not gonna wash I'm afraid.

Peace to you too.

10. First you say you have a hard time

"with a Christian asking God to damn anyone, let alone a whole nation."

then you say "You have a hard time with racism?"

Which is it?

Have you read your scripture recently? A Christian, by definition, follows the teaching of Jesus. Jesus came on earth to save the world from eternal damnation. If "Christians" like Bush typify the USA, then, by logical progression, they are not following the teachings of the real Christ, and as such, are damned.

The fact that the person who pointed that out is a black preacher appears to be the reason for the outcry, therefore, for someone who is so appalled by racism, I find your statement somewhat hypocritical.

Peace
