WHY are Republicans so worked up over giving immunity to the telecoms?
Remember what Sally Kern (R - Crazy) said?

"I honestly think (Being gay is) the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat, okay?"

So, why don't Republicans get in their bomb shelters to protect themselves from teh gay and get out of our government already?

Hurry, go! Before gay gets you!

2. They are worked up because...
The telecoms have paid them to get worked up. Plus, they are bound and determined to follow Dear Leader off the cliff. They know that if this thing ever gets completely dragged into the light of day, this maladministration will make Nixon's look like the eyes of probity and no one will ever vote for the repukes again.

4. It gives immunity to Bush, and by extension, their party.
With no immunity, the telecoms can't be investigated, and if they can't be investigated, the Bush White House can't be, either.

7. I heard Pelosi on the radio today (clip of her, not interview)
she was listing reasons the admin might want it and made the point that it really comes down to protecting the White House, not even the companies. e.g., White House didn't follow proper procedures, it will come out in the other lawsuits.

8. Correct. Second reason: it is a sacrificial lamb they are willing to give up
in order to pass a bill that allows bypass of FISA court and continued spying. Don't forget, Bush has pardon power so prosecutions probably don't scare them much.

It's the same deal as waterboarding...the issue gets narrowed down to some particular aspect (waterboarding) that everyone uses and the other equally or more important aspects (other torture, rendition) go without attention.

10. the authoritarians
read either 'conservatives without conscience' by john dean or 'the authoritarians' by bob altemeyer. They give a good psych. profile into right wing authoritarians.

For one thing, they feel society is (always) going to hell in a handbasket and only tough, iron fisted leadership can save us from the abyss. So that is part of their overreaction to gays (they overreact to every social advance like womens suffrage, black voting, social security creation, etc).

I have no idea about tcom immunity though. Probably some stupid misappropriation of what patriotism is. Which reminds me of Rachael Maddow said last night on olbermann.

13. Worst than Watergate........they used them to steal the election..
by using their circuits, wiring, etc. to dial in votes. How did Rove know that they were going to win when the exit polling was way against them.
