Now I'm wondering if this is why Impeachment is off the table
I was in a discussion about the WTC bombing in 93 on another board when this occured to me. After 9/11 the neocons continuously spouted "This is all Clintons fault." A person in the discussion was reissuing the sentiment by saying that Clinton had ignored the bombing. I said If you consider capturing, placing on trial, and convicting those involved to be ignoring it. Then sure he did. But then what do you call what Bush is doing about bin Laden now? If bin Laden is so easy to catch. Then why hasn't Bush done it by now. He doesn't even have any pesky Impeachments to distract him. That is what now has me wondering. Is that the reason imprechment is off the table? Nancy or the House Dems don't want Bush to be able to blame impeachment proceedings for his failures. Be it to catch bin laden or simply obey the law. They are just tollerating him and giving him enough rope to hang himself with until he leaves office.

1. Impeachment is off the table because . . .
Theory 1: The DLC has told Pelosi/Reid that if they don't comply with the current administration, there will be a serious, well funded democratic competitor come their next election.

Theory 2: Pelosi/Reid are happy to be second in line at the trough.

Theory 3: The current administration has got some scandalous scoop on Pelosi/Reid via illegal wiretapping.

12. Number 3 is the winner. They started the taps long before any terrorism.
Thus they wanted info on their political adversaries.

2. Capturing Bin Laden was/is not part of the plan
Demonize him and Al Quaeda to justify invading and occupying an innocent nation is.

They NEED an enemy to justify the horrible, despicable, deplorable, illegal and immoral things they have done, abroad and at home.

They won't impeach him because they don't have the votes to succeed. Or, they don't impeach him because he has data on them that would incriminate them. Or, they don't impeach him because they are complicit....after all, they authorized the war in the first place.

But catching Bin Laden? Never. He is far more valuable as an enemy than dead. It all comes down to money and power. And the military industrial complex rules.

18. Ding! We have a winner
That pretty much nails it.

The whole system has depended upon the MIC to keep it afloat.

4. The WTC is largely to blame for the economy.
Honestly, it was the business UN of the world. And don't forget our two Dem leaders in both houses got sent anthrax and no one even bothered to investigate it till years later! They can't use impeachment on him, he let so many bad things happen to America they are willing to let his sneaky ass go under the radar and leave with his record, while the record of what they did to Clinton will be there forever too.

People who blame the Clintons, fall into the same pattern as most other victims. They just don't think about how different it was 10+ years ago, hopefully they remember what Reagan did. Ya know he could have been impeached, easily and now the have him hung in GOP sainthood.

I don't know if they know how to stop corporate pirates.

5. Impeachment is off the table because it would be unsuccessful.
They will never get enough Republican's in the Senate to convict him, and he would be acquitted.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be impeached, just that the court is rigged and unless they catch Bush live on television slipping the old pork sausage to a little boy in the oval office, he will not be convicted, no matter what evidence is available.

8. Hey new-be
you think that this story would not be played like Bill Clinton's cock-sucking episode.
Convection only will happen when you put the meat in the oven of the media.
Conviction happens only when we see it in the oven.
Nothing is cooked, but a lot of this has been marinading for a long time

Tell me how you feel when the economy collapses before the next election.

15. I agree that the economy will collapse, and most likely by September...
if the stories I've seen are accurate.

But, it doesn't matter what kind of evidence is presented. The Republicans in the Senate will never vote to Impeach Bush. It isn't about guilt, evidence, or reality; its politics to them.

For Republicans, impeachment is a poltical act that has nothng to do with high crimes or misdeamenors. In fact, they are probably gong to start investigations of a Democrat, should one be elected, within a week of the election. For them, Impeachment is just another tool they use to try and to take and hold power.

16. true
However the goal of impeachment isn't just to remove them, it is to conduct serious investigations into their crimes and to send a message to future presidents that this behavior won't be toleranted. However most presidents since LBJ (including LBJ) should've been impeached but weren't.

I tend to think that turning Bush into a victim in the eyes of the public plays a role. And fear that an impeachment would overshadow all the bad news that can hurt the GOP in 2008. Conyers is probably going to force Blackwell to testify (and hopefully imprison him) sometime in summer of 2008, just in time for the november elections.

Something needs to be done though, if these people retire in comfort in Florida after all they've done then why even bother having a democracy. These people need jail time, or to at least be hounded and harassed and driven into bankruptcy and shame. Something has to be done, even if it isn't impeachment.

10. I agree with the post about the DLC. But another theory a few months back was that Congress
knew Hillary was going to run for President and they didn't want to screw it up for her by Impeaching the criminals before the election.

Anyone in Congress who refuses to Impeach is a criminal too and just as guilty as * & Co!
