What a vast pack of crap Commander AWOL delivered yesterday.
Even the NYT saw right through his pathetic embroidery of lamely delivered republicon propaganda and outright lies.

GEORGE SPEAKS, BADLY
By Gail Collins, from today's NYT

"Watching George W. Bush address the New York financial community Friday brought back many memories. Unfortunately, they were about his speech right after Hurricane Katrina, the one when he said: “America will be a stronger place for it.”

“You’ve helped make our country really in many ways the economic envy of the world,” he told the Economic Club of New York."

6. And then....
the stock markets started tanking, oil prices shot up, gold prices went up, and the housing market fell precipitously.

7. We're the economic envy of the world?
In what aspect? Does that include all of OUR money continuing to be wasted on invasions of choice that turned out to be wholesale failures (just like EVERYthing the Carlyle Fuhrer gets his oily mitts on) or families by the houseload every hour filing a bankruptcy due to exorbitant medical expenses that Big Insurance refuses to cover? Is that WITH the continuous corporate bailouts like good ol' Bear Stearns, the almost daily thousand-plus layoff announcements and the astronomical National Debt, which is part of the reason Murka LOST the #1 economic rating this past week to the European standard?

Sure, you Repuke lurkers say, "we make more and git taxed LESS, yew stewpid lib!1!!!" What the fuck GOOD is it doing you? It's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by Elizabeth Warren, David Cay Johnston, Piketty and Saenz, etc that poor/working/middle class wage gains have not outpaced inflation, NOT progressed beyond flatline and certainly NOT even hit the Everest-steep incline the wealthy have received in their earnings over the past 20 years.

Is that larger salary than those "commie yurpeens" you vilify so much really giving you a worry-free life? What if your wife or one of your kids gets sick? What if YOU get sick? Are you prepared to pay the thousands upon thousands that Europeans and Canadians DON'T have to pay in such a crisis? Why wouldn't you WANT assurance that your health care is really going to BE there for you when you need it? Do you LIKE having nearly NO vacation and being bitched at/encouraged not to take it when you DO use it? Do you seriously go to bed at night not worrying whether you're truly taken care of in the event of an unforseen circumstance?

Maybe one reason we're such an "economic envy" is because Americans measure "economics" by how well the wealthy are doing. And why are they doing well? I'll tell you why: because they've shifted almost ALL of the risk on to US. Are the wealthy financing a worry-free health care system? How are you with forking over multiple thousands of dollars to Big Hospital/Big Insurance, all for the crime of getting sick? Are they out there fighting the wars that they start and profit off of? Are the soldiers fighting these wars sharing in the massive gains made from it? Is there a viable safety net for the worker if he or she loses their job? Is there affordable college for upgrading skills? How about jobs for those who don't want to go or aren't meant for college? I don't think very many of them exist anymore, unless you want to start your own business and hope you're the one out of ten that actually succeeds. How about 401(k)s, where the worker makes out well in a good market, but disastrously if, God Forbid, tied to a criminal company's stock like Enron's? What about the tax-to-cost-of-living burden? Are we getting the frosting end of the stick on that one?

"Economic Envy" my ASS, you bastard simian. 28 years of Republican risk-shiftin', warmongering, job-offshoring, "I got mine" economics has turned this country into a nightmare. And it's mostly YOUR FAULT, you stupid shit.

10. US no longer world's largest economy
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL1491971920080314

PARIS (Reuters) - The U.S. economy lost the title of "world's biggest" to the euro zone this week as the value of the dollar slumped in currency markets.

Taking the gross domestic product of both economies in 2007, the combined GDP of the 15 countries which use the euro overtook that of the United States when the European currency surged to a record high of more than $1.56 per euro.

16. Collins has a way with words. Too bad Bushwipe doesn't, and neither
do his lazy speech writers.

I thought this was a clever line by Collins:
"Saying you’re going to fix the economy or balance the budget by cutting out earmarks is like saying you’re going to end global warming by banning bathroom nightlights."
