Poll question: March 15th, Health Care ... Do you have adequate health insurance?
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 09:46 AM by Angela Shelley
I recently posted a poll called "Are you struggling to buy food and fuel?"
As of today, 60% of the replies were "Yes". Very interesting.

This poll is about health care.

The term "adequate" is a subjective one, you can decide for yourself.

Do you have adequate health insurance?

Thanks :-)

7. Was there a time in your adult life in which you
had health insurance?

9. Yes, up until the begining of 2001.
I lost most of everything I had due to the Bushler economy and hurricane Katrina. :(

At least I was able to go back to school, and have a small scholarship to cover tuition. My hope is to move to another country (if the Dem nominee loses) with this new education (in science) where I will be able to obtain healthcare.

11. Same here. I could afford it. No one will issue it
It's not about health CARE. It's about profiting off the healthy.

2. DH and I do but kids don't
They are in their 20s and no longer eligible to be covered on our plan.

So I worry. A lot.

for coverage due to preexisting health issues. There was only one company that would cover us, and the only way we can afford the rates is to take a high deductible policy. We are self-employed and it is getting to the point that self-employment will be a thing of the past if something is not done about health insurance.

I remember seeing statistics that showed small businesses were responsible for a good portion of new job creation. That is probably changing because every small business person I know is struggling with health insurance costs.

16. I'm in the "Government System" that you hear so much about
Its not bad, there are a number of choices of insurers, there are actually a lot of different plans to choose from. It amazes me no end that althoug you hear politicians refer to it constantly nobody ever bothers to explain how it looks from the consumer's point of view or even gives a simple overview of how it works.

By the way, its not particularly cheap either, but most of the cost is borne by the Government employer, not the employee. This remains true into retirement. That is the only thing that makes it affordable, I believe they are paying for 65% of the cost.

17. Is it the system which HRC has talked about expanding?
Any thoughts?

And BTW, if I remember correctly, ... remember the threads about ten days ago about oil prices falling/rising? I hope you didn´t place any money as a bet on your prediction ... :-)

20. I'd still put money on the oil drop - but to answer your question, yep, same plan
Every Federal Government Employee is in it, or at least can be in it. Basically its an umbrella. Many companies participate. Companies put together a couple of plans, generally a high and low cost plan; one with everything, the other bare bones. Prices for similar plans are similar. Once a year there is an 'open season' during which you get to shop from among the plans and chose the one you want for the upcomming year. The Government pays a large portion of the cost, you pay the rest. We use the BlueCross/BlueShield plan, I think my end of it comes to about $350 per month, which means the total price is somewhere near $1,000 per month with the Government picking up 65% of it. Its pretty much like state BC/BS plans, covers all the big stuff, dental, mental, some perscription coverage too. The thing is there is lots of choice but its between very similar plans, so you have to decide for yourself if that really represents a choice at all. Price wise its really not cheap other than the individual never sees most of the cost.

21. What are your thoughts on the idea of expanding
this plan to cover about 50 million additional people (those who currently have no insurance coverage)?

19. free drugs
My family and I have adequate health insurance.....I wanted to let people know about the free/discounted prescription drugs that are available. If you do not earn much money your doctor can fill out a form requesting free drugs for you from the pharmaceutical company. My mom(who sadly passed away last year) and several friends have been receiving free prescription drugs for years! This is not advertised much, even from the doctors. No one is going to offer, you have to request the doctor to fill out the form. I do not know what the monetary income limits are....I hope this will help some of you out there!!!

25. My coverage is useless unless I have a catastrophic illness, and that's
assuming that the company actually carries through on its promises and doesn't drop me if I become seriously ill or injured.
