MARCH ON WASHINGTON THIS COMING WEEKEND!!
MARCH ON WASHINGTON THIS COMING WEEKEND and to STAY IN WASHINGTON on MARCH 17 on the 4TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INVASION OF IRAQ!
By ACTION!

Also please make your plans now to join us on March 17 when Troops Out Now Coalition is calling for us to not only go to Washington for the weekend protest but to Stay in Washington on the 4th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq - to confront the government and force the Congress to cut off war funding. For more information go to: Troops Out Now Coalition - Axis Editorial Board

United for Justice with Peace

MARCH ON WASHINGTON!

On Election Day, voters nation-wide delivered an unmistakable MANDATE for PEACE. And now, it's time for ACTION!

On Saturday, Jan. 27th, people from every corner of the country will march on Washington, DC. Our message will be clear, our voice will be strong: End the war in Iraq, Bring all the troops home now!

Bush's announcement of plans to escalate the war is backfiring. It has opened a debate on the powers of Congress to block troop deployments, spurred more Republicans to jump ship, and moved more people inside and outside of Congress to debate the merits of continuing the war or ending it. The timing of the massive antiwar demonstration on January 27th could not be better. (For bus reservations and transportation information please click on the DC Bus - Jan 27 ticket in the left hand column)

On Monday, Jan. 29th, we will take our message directly to the new Congress in a lobby day. Congress has the power to end this war through legislation. National United for Peace and Justice is calling on people from every congressional district in the country to gather in Washington, DC -- to express support for those members of Congress who are prepared to take immediate action against the war; to pressure those who are hesitant to act; and to speak out against those who remain tied to a failed policy.

Even if you can't go, you can participate by helping students and others make the trip with a scholarship donation to: UJP, 55 Norfolk St., Cambridge MA 02139. Earmark for transportation fund.

WHERE TO MEET TOGETHER IN DC: UfPJ will be posting state signs on Saturday, to help us meet up with each other!! All those planning to lobby will be together at the lobby training day, by state and Congressional District !! - and other meetings

RALLY SPEAKERS:

Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson, who last year led an anti-war march of thousands, the largest protest in Salt Lake City history

Reverend Jesse Jackson Jr.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio)

Maxine Waters (D-Calif.)

Bob Watada, father of Lt. Watada, the first military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq and currently facing court-martial and active- duty service people. You can download flyers below. Please help distribute fliers and e-mails widely!!!!!

6. Then surely you'll know that listening to the speakers isn't mandatory?

Jackson's history of protesting during the 60's is reason enough to give him props.

12. His speech will be played on C-Span and the news. I'd rather he not project the image...
of the anti-war movement.

Are you going to be there?

20. Thanks..
...actually been here awhile, just do not post much.

I will be there...if nothing else because that is where the beautiful people are. With the exception of the patchuli smell (followed the Dead for many years - cannot stomach that smell), hippies are the greatest people to be around. I know....not all (or even most) of the attendees will be hippies - still, I like to see a good hippy turn out.

Jackson is a great speaker - I cried like a baby when he read 'Green Eggs and Ham' on SNL right after Suess died - but I just have questions about his motivations. I also have questions about my girlfriend's motives sometimes, but unlike Jesse, I am afraid of her and I keep my mouth shut...lol.

14. What do you mean by that?
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 05:05 PM by MookieWilson
The anti-war movement is diverse. He has spoken at all the rallies and projects a tired image. I don't want to hear Peter, Paul and Mary sing for the same reason. I like them, but they've been there, done that.

How about someone from Military Families Speak Out?

How about some former military personnel?

There are a lot of other legitimage anti-war voices.

29. Since I can't be there -
I sent most of the funds I saved for the trip to UFP et al to assist with costs for housing/transpo etc. I am sending my thoughts, prayers and ALL my love with my fellow DU'ers who are going - and my only demand is lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of photos!!

On March 8, 2003, a bunch of us got together in a field near the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I'm one of the ones in the "O":

So you lucky attendees think one or two good thoughts for me, ok? :loveya:

31. Forget Iraq
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 11:45 AM by pat_k
Now that I have your attention. . ..

Before they terrorized the nation into the criminal war of aggression in Iraq, Bush and Cheney declared War on the Constitution.

They've been far more successful in their War on the Constitution than their occupation of Iraq, not because they are rational or competent, but because they have been UNOPPOSED. We have allowed our troops -- Members of Congress who are sworn to defend the Constitution -- to be derilect in their duty.

Only impeachment can enforce the terms of the Constitution -- our common contract.

As long as we leave the massive power of the American presidency in the hands of fascist war criminals we have no hope of doing anything productive in the Middle East. Only impeachment can change the dynamics and make it possible to engage the stakeholders and extract our troops (not to mention that trying to remodel our own house while it's burning is assine.)

It's time to change those signs:
Stop the War in Iraq on the Constitution
Redeploy
Impeach NOW.

Just imagine if the January 27th March and the January 29th lobbying day focused 100% on impeachment.

Just imagine if, just for once, we focused on a SINGLE message.
