5. Typical spring weather for the midwest and southeast, IIRC.

They don't call it Tornado Alley for no reason.

There's just lot more reporting going on about it, and with the internet the excitement of really severe conditions builds PDQ.

14. I don't have links, that is my personal opinion.

It is based on some observation...I lived in Florida for 20 years and don't recall any serious tornadoes there from 1978 to 1997 - there have been several since then.

1998 was the second worst tornado season since 1950.

17. Yes, I did...for many more reasons than just the weather. But that spike in 83, I don't remember it

I lived in Tampa in 83...but I was out of the country quite a bit that year. I -think- that might have been the year
a hurricane loitered out in Tampa Bay and did some damage...maybe there were tornados involved with it. Can't
recall it's name.

The worst tornado to ever to hit the city, traveled an 8 1/2-mile-wide path through northwest Atlanta, tearing the roof off the Governer's mansion shredding trees in its path along West Paces Ferry, Peachtree Battle and Howell Mill roads. Three Atlantans lost their lives. It caused more than $84 million in damage.
