Was Spitzer Entrapped by the rethugs?
-snip-

New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer's "entrapment by federal authorities investigating a prostitution ring raised speculation that" GOP political consultant Roger Stone, "with a 40-year record as a political hit man, somehow was behind it," according to Robert Novak.

On December 6, Stone said, ''Eliot Spitzer will not serve out his term as governor of the state of New York," on Michael Smerconish's radio talk show. He gave no details.

1. I believe this with my heart, that he was entrapped, and they will pay
If not now, but in November.

5. Really?
I would love nothing more! Please let this turn out to be a set-up. This entire scenario has been unbelievable but I do not hear any rebuttal except from Alan Dershowitz.

3. That's what I was thinking
Spitzer was walking down the street reading his Bible.
Three republikkans jumped out of the bushes and said, "Want some prostitutes."

Spitzer said, "No. That would be wrong and illegal."

The republikkans said, "Oh. But these are women who are in need of being saved."

Spitzer then foolishly said, "OH, well. If they need saving then I will go."

But I do think if he was a Repbulican this would never have happened. And I'd love to know what came first - the wire tap or the warrent for the tap.

6. If he was willing to roll over and apologize for being 'entrapped' he wasn't much of a statesman
to begin with.

9. The chick was too hot to be a republican.
Republican women are usually the ones paying men to sleep with them for five large.

10. Stone would know. He'd swap out his own wife to screw over DEMs.
Got rid of the Reform Party in 2000 on behalf of the little turd from Crawford.

11. "Entrapment" by legal definition...
....is enticing someone to do something illegal that she or he would not have done without such enticement. Spitzer got himself into this all by himself, at worst enticed by his own hormones and arrogance. And he got caught.

He may or may not have been targeted, but enticed? No.

12. Greg Palast's take on why Spitzer had to go...
From a March 14 article posted on his website:

The $200 billion bail-out for predator banks and Spitzer charges are intimately linked

By Greg Palast

While New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was paying an ‘escort’ $4,300 in a hotel room in Washington, just down the road, George Bush’s new Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Ben Bernanke, was secretly handing over $200 billion in a tryst with mortgage bank industry speculators.

Both acts were wanton, wicked and lewd. But there’s a BIG difference. The Governor was using his own checkbook. Bush’s man Bernanke was using ours.

This week, Bernanke’s Fed, for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks’ mortgage-backed junk bonds. The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall to the very banking predators who have brought two million families to the brink of foreclosure.

Up until Wednesday, there was one single, lonely politician who stood in the way of this creepy little assignation at the bankers’ bordello: Eliot Spitzer.

As to Novak's misuse of the term "entrapment..." Novak is the kind of reporter -- using the term loosely -- who would misuse the term "covert" if it was convenient for his masters in the Rovian sewer to claim that the agent they outed wasn't undercover, but was simply some kind of mid-level clerk with an unjustifiably high security clearance and a delusional, pissed off husband.

Mr. Wilson and Ms. Plame seem well able to defend themselves. But naturally, modern corporate mass media -- of which Novak is the absolutely perfect symbol; amoral, inaccurate, pompous, argumentative, low-brow, dull-witted braggart and GOP suck-up that he is -- was unable to find the space or time to actually investigate the Plame case, and had to rely on the White House for the story.
