3. I salute you and your dedication to our freedom! This War is making us vulnerable! It must stop!
We need to start making our U.S. Military strong so they can protect us when the enemy does come to our shore and stop paying the industrial complex thieves like Blackwater and Halliburton! Sending our men & women to Iraq & Afghanistan for mission upon mission and then to not give them what they need to fight the fight is beyond belief! Let us do the right thing and make this country safe and stop the War in Iraq now!

Thank you!

At 80, war protester decides it's time to get arrested
By John Christoffersen
Associated Press Writer / March 17, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—At 80, Jim Barron has hearing aids and a pacemaker. The white-haired prostate cancer survivor took a cortisone shot this month to ease the sharp pain of an old shoulder injury.

more stories like this"It got to the point where I couldn't lift a glass of water," Barron said.

Despite his pains, Barron plans to risk arrest Wednesday, the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq war. He's part of a nationwide peace movement that is using the milestone as a time to escalate its protests with nonviolent civil disobedience.

Protests are scheduled in Washington, D.C., where protesters are vowing to block the entrance to the Internal Revenue Service and to disrupt the offices of lobbyists who represent military contractors and oil companies profiting from the war.

"I'm tired of being a futile old man not able to have any participation in this decision," Barron says. "I'm 80 years old. I'm still alive. I want people to say, 'If he's not afraid to do it, what am I doing being so silent?'"

10. Elders are valuable mentors. I worked on a city political project with Norma, 92, for two years.
She hadn't chosen to become involved, the issue came at her and her senior neighbors. She stepped up for those who were afraid to face down the powers in City Hall.

She worked tirelessly for two years (til we won), though she had two replaced knees, a serious heart condition, arthritis and hearing aides. She climbed the steps between floors of the county buildings and when I worried about her well-being, she told me to "Attend to your own business. I am busy going up the stairs."

Norma was a ten-foot-tall hero and mentor to me, an example of strength and determination. While maintaining her 'ladylike' manner, nobody put over anything on her.

In the end, Norma beat city hall and literally saved many lives of her friends and neighbors. And she did it with CLASS. And she taught me much.
