Here's a bunch of pictures from Hurricane Katrina that my friend uploaded

into his photo album on his site. He has his own ministry, and made several trips to New Orleans after the hurricane.

6. Thanks, k&r. Was thinking about Katrina while listening to radio today.

They were talking about the latest Atlanta tornadoes, which made me think of the miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles of devastation after Katrina. A sib told me it reminded sib of our neighborhood after tornado when we were kids, but much much huger in scope. Not to mention the storm surge along the coast and the flooding of N.O.

Edited to add a question and a comment. Were the houses marked GPS to figure out where they floated vs where they used to be? That purple house has no inside.

11. I'm not sure what the markings were...

I remember seeing something on TV when they were searching the houses and it said they were putting marks that showed who searched it, the date, and if there were bodies in the house or not.. but it's been a while, I don't remember the details...

One of the guys I worked with (who has died since, very sad) did these searches in other disasters and told me : The date was when the house was entered or "thoroughly searched" without entering. "NE" meant no entry, supposed to have someone come back later and do so. There was a designation for who did the marking/search, and numbers for bodies or animals found.

The "GPS" I was wondering about was on some of the Lower 9th floated houses. I assumed it meant they were GPSing them to figure out how the flow went, but never have found out.

7. I was sailing my sailboat down the Altlantic coast when Katrina hit

When I was about to go boat shopping I had almost decided to go down
to the gulf and find one. If I had, it could have been one of the boats
in that pile in picture #65 and I would have been lucky to get out with just my life.

Instead, I found one on Long Island I liked. And, even then, I had to sit in Northport, LI
for almost a week waiting for another storm to come up the coast or I would have run into it.

I didn't find out about Katrina until I got to Virginia.

Talk about a simple twist of fate.
