Poll question: Without being personal ... Did anyone here have Bear Stearns shares?
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 01:44 PM by Angela Shelley
Just curious, that´s why it´s a poll, to avoid sharing personal information.

Did you have Bear Stearns shares?

9. It was intentional...

My husband's IRA was invested mainly in stocks and he was starting to get a bit worried (well, more than a bit, actually) as we started losing thousands of dollars a week. It's really sad when all the gains you've made over the past five years start vanishing. We are basically retired, so we were kind of counting on this money to keep us going into the future.

In any event, he pulled the money out of stocks and is holding it in some other kind of money fund until things level out. It won't earn much, but at least it should be safer. Our broker thinks that things will improve after the election, but we're going to play it safe for a while. We're with Wachovia, so we're keeping an eye on them, too. We may ultimately move things over to our credit union.

3. No money, no investments
Well, none to speak of anyway. So when the market crashes, we're only indirectly affected.

6. The problem is....
that with mutual funds and money market funds most people have no idea if some of their 401 or retirement fund was parked there. When you read the reports of how investments have been packaged these last few years an actual forensic accounting would take decades and will probably never be done.

7. My spare cash is invested in food and barter goods.
I made a very good return on buying rice in 50-lb bags a year ago. Now I get to eat today at last year's prices.

13. You were smart.
We have a freezer full of rice and oatmeal, too, and lots of beans. Even though we have retirement accounts, I don't count on any of it. I'm not even confident about my husband's pension from the Marine Engineers, although he assures me that they are well-funded. Over the years I've learned not to take anything for granted.
