Abba drummer Ola Brunkert dies in freak accident
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 04:11 PM by DesertRat
The drummer for the Swedish pop group Abba has been found dead with his throat cut after he accidentally walked through a glass door.

Ola Brunkert, 61, crashed head first through the door in his kitchen at his home on Majorca, wounding his neck on a shard of glass.

He managed to wrap a towel around his neck and left the house to seek help, but collapsed in the garden and bled to death.

His body was discovered in the garden of his villa in Arta on the island's northeastern coast by a neighbour on Sunday evening.

2. Oh no!!
What a terrible terrible way to go! I had the potential to have gone out that way myself! In my case I was rescued by my neighbor who was just getting out of her car as I was heading out the door bleeding heavily and seeking help. I passed out in her car as she rushed me to the nearby hospital.
RIP Ola Brunkert.

7. Although this should be about Ola, my story parallels it somewhat

(edited for spell check.)
I was alone in my home, in my basement when I spotted a big furry black and yellow bumblebee on the concrete floor. I try to not kill such interlopers so I grabbed a jar of loose nuts and screws, emptied it out on the bench and turned to attempt a capture of the bee. In doing this I stepped on my shoelace and fell over, smashing the jar through my hand. I lost all functions for that hand, everything was severed and it was bleeding badly.

I grabbed my cell-phone out of my pocket with my other hand but it was useless because it was covered in blood. I almost passed out getting up the stairs and out my front door. I crossed the short yard heading to my neighbors house when she just happened to pull up in her car. She got me into her car...that's about all I remember before waking up in the hospital ER where they got the bleeding under control, hooked me up to an IV and ambulanced me up to a better equipped hospital an hour away.

Had my neighbor not been home I might have made it on my own but there is a great chance that I would not have made it at all! (The doctors at the first ER said I had lost a lot of blood!) My hand works fine now...it took over a year before I could say that. I think I can relate to what poor Ola went through...it horrifies me now to hear of someone bleeding to death over an easy accident and no access to quick help.

3. Della REESE!!!!! She lived, though, but....damn!
    Della Reese

is the famous singer and actress who brought to the attention of millions, more than 35 years ago (1970), the inherent danger of sliding glass doors made with non-safety plate glass. Della Reese accidentally walked into a plate glass door. She was nearly killed when she was sliced by the broken shards of glass so badly that she lost most of her blood and required a thousand stitches to close her wounds. When she crashed through the glass, she fell on top of the jagged bottom pieces. The more she tried to change position, the deeper the glass cut. A split second before the top glass fell, she was able to pull herself off the bottom pieces of glass.

Hopefully this accident will shed some light on glass injuries and maybe save a life.

9. Terrible accident
"Mama Mia"... He met his "Waterloo"...

Interesting how many rock (or pop) groups of that era have lost members. Beatles and The Who have 2/4 left. Led Zeppelin as well.

10. Well, golly, I'm sure glad some people haven't lost their ability to crack jokes and puns
about someone's freakish horrible death.

I wonder how this is any better than John Gibson saying on Heath Ledger's death "Looks like he found a way to quit us." :puke:

I hope you die peacefully in bed, in some way that doesn't prompt others to make up tasteless jokes about it.
